After a standout 2019 season and a First-Team All-Big Ten nod, defensive tackle Raequan Williams is back at Michigan State for his senior season. Williams, a Chicago native, racked up 53 tackles (10 1/2 for loss) last season, while pushing his starts str eak to 29 games. Much is expected from Williams this fall. Here are a few things to know about the senior defensive line. In January 2016 and June 2017, Williams lost two close family members - his cousin and younger brother - to shootings. Williams was ready to return home after the losses. He wanted to keep his family safe. "Rae wanted to stop," Latasha Williams said of her son. "He was ready to come back. I told him, 'No, it's gotta motivate you more, so you do what you gotta do. Don't let this stop you. Take it out on the field.'"Despite being a highly-touted NFL prospect, Williams never bothered to get feedback from NFL front offices about his draft stock, according to the Detroit News. Why didn't he explore his options? Because his mom wo uldn't let him, that's why. Williams' mom did have a good reason for keeping him in school, though. "My mom wouldn't let me. I gotta graduate," he said. "You know how it is." - Lansing State Journal
