  11/15/25 - Shane LeerFr/2029, Nicholls, 5-09, 225 (DS#999 RB) + More +

Shane Lee's 4-yard touchdown run in the middle of the fourth quarter - his third touchdown of the game - was the only score of the second half, lifting Nicholls to a 26-21 victory over Northwestern State on Saturday night. Northwestern State took a 21-19 halftime lead when Ty Moore caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Abram Johnston. The short drive was set up when Northwestern's Joe Natali recovered a muffed punt at the 36-yard line.

Nicholls' go-ahead score capped a 12-play, 66-yard drive that nearly ended when the Demons' Ja'Marion Bonner returned an interception 79 yards to the 1-yard line. However, the play was negated by offsetting penalties. Lee scored four plays later. Lee, a freshman, established his career high with 134 yards for the Colonels (4-7, 4-3 Southland Conference). His three touchdowns, also a career high, doubled his season total. Johnston had 90 yards rushing with two touchdowns for Northwestern State (1-10, 0-7). - AP College Football

  08/23/25 - Ty MarshrSr/2026, Nicholls, 5-10, 190 (DS#44 SS) + More +

Ty Marsh returned an interception for a touchdown, Nicholls held Incarnate Word to 204 yards of offense, and the Colonels defeated the Cardinals 20-6 on Saturday in the debut of Tommy Rybacki as coach of the Colonels. Not only was the matchup the first FCS game of the season, it was the first Division I game played in the United States. Nicholls prevailed in a clash between the two teams that have won six of the past seven Southland Conference championships. UIW, ranked No. 4 in the preseason coaches poll, is the defending conference champion after going 7-0 in 2024. The Cardinals have won three of the last four conference championships (2021, 2022 and 2024), with the exception being Nicholls' championship in 2023.

Nicholls also won in 2018 and 2019. Rybacki was the Colonels' defensive coordinator for all three conference championships.

Late in the second quarter, Marsh broke up a Richard Torres pass intended for Timothy Carter. As the ball caromed into the air, Marsh hauled it in and raced untouched the last 29 yards for a 13-3 lead. UIW drove deep into Nicholls territory early in the fourth quarter, but Anthony Rodgers intercepted a Torres pass near the goal line. Six plays later, Deuce Hogan hit Karaaz Johnson for a 55-yard touchdown and a 20-6 lead. Hogan completed 21 of 35 passes for 221 yards and the touchdown to Johnson, who had two catches for 58 yards. Torres was 23-for-35 passing for 175 yards and was intercepted three times. - Nicholls/AP College Football

Julien Gums rushed for 110 yards and scored the winning touchdown early in the fourth quarter to lift Nicholls State to a 40-35 win over McNeese State on Saturday. The Colonels (2-6, 2-1 Southland Conference) scored three straight touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 34-29 lead. The Cowboys led after a 12-play, 80-yard drive that was capped by Deonta McMahon's 9-yard run in the first minute of the fourth quarter. But then Gums promptly put Nicholls back on top. McNeese chewed up almost five minutes before losing the ball on downs at the Nichols 25.

The Cowboys then ran out the last five minutes. Collin Guggenheim's second short TD run started the rally for the Colonels. James Tobin followed that less than a minute later with a 30-yard interception return. The lead came when Kohen Granier and Terry Matthews hooked up for an 89-yard catch and run. Granier was 19-of-37 passing for 339 yards but had two interceptions. Deonta McMahon ran for 115 yards and three touchdowns for the Cowboys (1-6, 0-3). - Nicholls State/AP College Football
