  Justin Lamson threw for a career-high four touchdowns and ran for another, Adam Jones rushed for 173 yards and a score, and Montana State routed Idaho State 48-14 on Saturday for its fifth straight victory to remain in first place in the Big Sky Conference. Montana State led 34-14 at halftime after gaining 373 yards and scoring five touchdowns. Idaho State was held to just four yards rushing by halftime and ended the first half with Jordan Cooke throwing an interception.

Jones became the first Bobcat this season to eclipse the century mark rushing. Lamson was 17 of 21 for 184 yards without an interception for Montana State (5-2, 3-0). Lamson also carried it 16 times for 60 yards. Rocky Lencioni caught two touchdown passes, and Dane Steel and Julius Davis each had one. Cooke and Davis Harsin each threw an interception for Idaho State (2-5, 1-2). Cooke was 20 of 37 for 207 yards and two touchdowns. Tsion Nunnally caught nine passes for 169 yards and a score, and Michael Shulikov added 124 yards on 10 grabs with a touchdown. - AP College Football

  WEEK 6 BIG SKY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Taco Dowler, Montana State (WR/RS, Jr., Billings, Mont.),...Trailing 7-0 on the road to No. 13 Northern Arizona, Taco Dowler energized No. 5 Montana State with a 90-yard punt return touchdown as the Bobcats outscored the Lumberjacks 34-3 from that point on in the 34-10 victory. Montana State had gained 76 yards of offense midway through the second quarter before Dowler's return, which was the longest in school history and ranks as the longest in the FCS so far this season. The punt return touchdown was the fourth of Dowler's career. Dowler also rushed for three yards and caught two passes for 45 yards in Montana State's road win.   WEEK 6 BIG SKY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kenneth Eiden, Montana State (DL, Sr., Bozeman, Mont.),...Kenneth Eiden IV led No. 5 Montana State to another stifling defensive effort, registering seven tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, in his team's 34-10 win at No. 13 Northern Arizona. He also logged half a sack and hurried NAU quarterback Ty Pennington once. MSU's pass rush, keyed by Eiden, helped hold Pennington to nearly 60 yards below his season average while intercepting him for just the second time in 2025. The Bobcat defense held NAU to under 300 yards of offense, which included a sub-100 day rushing the ball.   Justin Lamson threw a pair of long touchdown passes 90 seconds apart in a dominating first quarter and Montana State went on to an easy 57-3 win over Eastern Washington on Saturday to open Big Sky Conference play. Lamson connected with Hunter Provience for a 43-yard score to make it 14-0 with 6:16 left in the first and Lamson then hit Taco Dowler streaking down the left sideline for a 45-yard score with 4:46 remaining. Including a 3-yard touchdown run by Adam Jones early and a late 43-yard field goal by Myles Sansted late, the Bobcats (3-2) led 24-0. Montana State had 161 yards and the Eagles minus-1 in the quarter. By halftime the yardage was 300-67 at the Bobcats led 36-3. Lamson threw his third TD pass, a 28-yarder to Jabez Woods.

Lamson finished 13-of-20 passing for 270 yards. Jones had a 37-yard touchdown run in the second half when the Bobcats had four rushing touchdowns, three of them longer than 25 yards, including holder Colby Frokjer going 26 yards on a fake field goal to cap the opening possession. The Bobcats had 293 yards on the ground and 580 yards of total offense. Three quarterbacks combined to go 15 of 31 for 124 yards for Eastern Washington (1-4). The Eagles had 83 yards on the ground for 207 total yards. The quarterbacks had 27 carries for 74 yards.   Julius Davis and Adam Jones ran for touchdowns and Montana State shut out Mercyhurst 17-0 on Saturday. Davis scored on a 3-yard run to complete a 92-yard, 10-play drive in the first quarter. Myles Sansted kicked a 22-yard field goal in the second quarter then Jones scored on a 5-yard run to finish an 11-play, 83-yard drive with 40 seconds left in the half.

The MSU defense had 10 tackles for loss and held the Lakers (1-3) to 4 of 14 on third-down conversions and 58 yards rushing. It was the Bobcats' (2-2) first shutout since a 20-0 blanking of Weber State in 2023. Ryan Krahe intercepted a tipped pass in the end zone on a fourth-down play from the Bobcats 2 late in the game. Colson Coon was the leading rusher with 71 yards for the Bobcats (2-2), who are tied for sixth in the FCS coaches poll with Rhode Island.   Quarterback Justin Lamson accounted for 314 total yards and four touchdowns and No. 6 FCS Montana State wore out San Diego 41-7 on Saturday. Lamson threw for 293 yards on 23-for-26 passing and threw three touchdowns and ran for 21 yards and a score. He reached halftime with a 201 yards passing going 16 of 19. He threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Taco Dowler for a 7-0 lead on the the Bobcats' first drive. Lamson's 17-yard touchdown pass to Adam Jones with 6:32 left before halftime made it 17-0. With 22 seconds left before the break, Lamson ran it into the end zone from the 24 to extend the Bobcats' (1-2) margin to 24-0.

After taking the ball to start the third quarter, Lamson completed all five of his pass attempts for 66 yards, and the eight-play, 75-yard drive ended with his 16-yard touchdown pass to Dowler. Julius Davis' 17-yard touchdown run with 5:41 left in the third made it 38-0. San Diego (1-2) scored when Dom Nankil threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Josh Heverly with 12:59 left.   Tommy Mellott threw a touchdown pass and ran for two more touchdowns to help FCS No. 4 Montana State beat Utah Tech 31-7 Saturday night. Mellott was 14-of-21 passing for 152 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown to Rohan Jones, and added 71 yards rushing on six carries for Montana State (2-0). Scottre Humphrey had 104 yards rushing on 20 carries. Taco Dowler returned a punt 53 yards to the 8, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by Adam Jones that opened the scoring late in the first quarter and Mellott kept the ball on a zone-read play and raced 47 yards for a TD that made it 14-0 with 13:13 left in the second quarter.

Mellott connected with Rohan Jones for a 45-yard touchdown pass early in the third and Myles Sansted kicked a 27-yard field goal to make it 24-0 going into the fourth quarter. Mellott capped an 11-play, 82-yard drive with a 1-yard TD run with 14:02 to play. Deacon Hill scored on a 24-yard run about a minute later for Utah Tech (0-1). - AP College Football

  Adam Jones scored on a 93-yard dash and Scottre Humphrey added a 4-yard run for the go-ahead score as Montana State scored twice in the final 4 1/2 minutes to stun New Mexico 35-31 in a season opener on Saturday. The Lobos, in the debut of Bronco Mendenhall as coach, led 17-0 early in the second quarter and 24-14 at halftime. A 13-yard fumble return by Noah Avinger - the Lobos' second scoop-and-score of the game - gave New Mexico a 31-14 lead three plays into the third quarter.

New Mexico had drives of 57 and 50 yards come up empty in the second half, but the Lobos still led 31-21 with 4 1/2 minutes remaining. At that point, Jones took a first-down hand off and was barely touched as he raced up the left sideline to make it 31-28. New Mexico punted with 1:59 remaining and Montana State drove 89 yards to Humphrey's go-ahead score with 10 seconds remaining. The Bobcats had 182 yards on their final two possessions and finished with 567 totals yards to 325 for New Mexico.   Tommy Mellott ran for three touchdowns and threw for a fourth and Isaiah Ifanse ran for 162 yards and two scores as Montana State drilled William & Mary, 55-7 in a Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinal game on a 17-degree Friday night. The Bobcats (12-1) advance to the semifinals and a potential rematch with South Dakota State, which faces Holy Cross in a quarterfinal match-up Saturday. Montana State knocked off the Jackrabbits, 31-17 in a semifinal matchup in 2021 and advanced to face North Dakota State for the national title before losing.

Mellott spearheaded an offense that posted 473 yards of total offense, 328 of it on the ground. Montana State's defense forced William & Mary to punt 10 times and the Bobcats' punt-return squad had 143 yards and a touchdown on a 79-yard return by Taco Dowler. Mellott scored the game's first touchdown on the final play of the first quarter, skirting the left end and racing 22 yards down the sideline to make it 10-0. After holding the Tribe to a three-and-out, Ifanse raced 68 yards untouched to the end zone to make it 17-0.   Sean Chambers threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score, Blake Glessner kicked four field goals on a frozen field and Montana State defeated Weber State 33-25 in the second round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday. Montana State (11-1), the fourth seed, earned its ninth straight win. The Bobcats, whose only loss this season was to FBS-member Oregon State 68-28, is home against fifth-seeded No. 5 William & Mary in the quarterfinals. Weber State (10-3) got a 39-yard field goal from Kyle Thompson on the opening possession to grab a 3-0 lead. Montana State answered with Chambers' 2-yard touchdown run for a 7-3 lead after one quarter. Glessner stretched the Bobcats lead to 10-3 with a 36-yard field goal, but Weber State (9-3) pulled even on Bronson Barron's 15-yard scoring strike to Ty MacPherson. Glessner kicked a 33-yard field goal with 2:47 left and another - from 31 yards out - on the final play of the half to give Montana State a 16-10 lead. The Bobcats gained separation in the third quarter. Glessner kicked a 32-yard field goal and Chambers connected with Derryk Snell for a 28-yard touchdown and a 26-10 Bobcats lead.

Chambers fired a 47-yard scoring strike to Willie Patterson 50 seconds into the final quarter on a double reverse and Montana State led 33-10. Kylan Weisser threw touchdown passes covering 31 yards to Jon Christensen and an 8-yarder to Hayden Meacham to get the Wildcats within eight points with 4:42 remaining. But the Bobcats used seven running plays - to pick up three first downs - and a kneel-down to run out the clock. Tommy Mellott completed 13 of 19 passes for 91 yards for the Bobcats, who play two quarterbacks. Chambers was 2-of-2 passing for 75 yards. Mellott carried 22 times for 158 of the Bobcats' 388 rushing yards. Chambers carried 13 times for 92 yards. MSU entered play second in the nation averaging 325.7 yards rushing per game. Isaiah Ifanse made his season debut for Montana State.
