  WEEK 9 NEC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Jayden Simpson, LIU, Wide Receiver, Freshman, 5-9, 175 lbs., Brooklyn, NY/Holy Trinity,...Week 9 Stats: 42 receiving yards, 4 receptions, 1 touchdown reception,...Hauling in four catches, Simpson contributed 42 receiving yards to an LIU offense that outgained visiting New Haven by a 424-201 margin in a 38-16 victory in Brookville on Saturday. In addition, the hometown product from Brooklyn fueled a 14-point offensive outburst that spanned the final 1:21 of the second quarter with a 33-yard touchdown catch from redshirt-junior Luca Stanzani to put the Sharks up by a 28-16 count at the break. That score, which erased a 16-14 deficit and gave LIU a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the game, was Simpson's first of his career, while his 42-yard outing marked a career-best performance. With the win, LIU moved to 2-1 in NEC play. Simpson is the second player from LIU to garner NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Rookie of the Week honors, as he joins Naquan Johnson (Sept. 15). - NEC Football

  WEEK 9 NEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Luca Stanzani, LIU, Quarterback, Redshirt Junior, 5-11, 185 lbs., Clearwater, FL/Clearwater Academy International,...Week 9 Stats: 15-of-26 completions, 152 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, 1 interception, 98 rushing yards, 20 rushes, 4 rushing touchdowns,...In his second game back at quarterback since suffering an injury against Sacred Heart, Stanzani looked like he did not miss a beat for LIU on Saturday. The Sharks' signal caller sliced New Haven's offense through the air and on the ground as he accounted for each of his team's five touchdowns in a commanding 38-16 triumph in Brookville on Saturday. A native of Clearwater, FL, Stanzani threw for one score and ran for four more to propel the Sharks to their highest point total in a game against an NEC squad since 2023.

In addition, the redshirt junior, who completed 15-of-26 passes for 152 passing yards, tacked on 98 rushing yards to his outstanding stat line. Stanzani's four rushing touchdowns, which were the most by a player in the entire nation in Week 9, are tied for the most by an FCS player this season, while his 24 points are tied for second-most in the nation. On the year, Stanzani is tied for first in the NEC with seven rushing scores. Those seven rushing touchdowns are tied for seventh-most among FCS quarterbacks. With two NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Offensive Player of the Year nods this season, Stanzani has earned five weekly awards from the NEC during his career. - NEC Football

  Ethan Greenwood passed for one touchdown and ran for another to lead Long Island University to a 24-17 win over Wagner in a season finale on Saturday. Greenwood scored from 2-yards out to make it 21-17 in the fourth quarter, the TD coming three plays after he found Jayden Simpson deep for 47 yards to the Wagner 7. A Will Johnson field goal capped the scoring, and Wagner turned the ball over on downs at the LIU 39 on its final possession. The Seahawks had taken a 17-14 lead went Shamar Williams returned a fumble for a 62-yard touchdown. Greenwood threw for 155 yards and was intercepted once. He rushed for 103 yards on 21 carries. Kam Ingram added 100 yards on the ground. O'Shawn Ross had a 42-yard rushing touchdown and Cory Nichols a 16-yard TD catch for the Sharks (6-6, 4-3 Northeast Conference).   Marshall Washington Jr.'s fourth-quarter pick-6 lifted Long Island University to a 10-3 win over winless Saint Francis on Saturday. Washington intercepted Nick Whitfield's pass on a dead run and sprinted down the left sideline 35 yards with just over 11 minutes remaining. Long Island (5-6, 3-3 Northeast Conference) led 3-0 at halftime on Will Johnson's 43-yard field goal. The Red Flash (0-10, 0-6) tied the game with 10 minutes left in the third quarter on Mac Plummer's 40-yard kick. Greenwood threw for 105 yards and led all rushers, carrying the ball 16 times for 79 of the Sharks' 249 yards total offense. O'Shawn Ross Jr. added 50 yards on 17 carries.   Ethan Greenwood threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, O'Shawn Ross Jr. rushed for 92 yards and Long Island beat Duquesne 29-11 on Saturday. The opening drive of the game by Duquesne was halted when Braylon Vincent intercepted a pass and ran it back 11 yards. The second drive for the Dukes ended in a three-and-out and Greenwood answered with a 20-yard scoring run.

Greenwood's 12-yard touchdown pass to O'Shawn Ross Jr. made it 15-3 at halftime. Trey Watkins broke the game open with a 30-yard interception return in the third quarter to make it 22-3. Greenwood added a 9-yard touchdown pass to Jaron Kelley. Greenwood was 9-of-15 passing for 122 yards without an interception and he carried it 16 times for 91 yards for LIU (4-6, 2/3 NEC). Tyler Riddell went 13 of 31 for 119 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for Duquesne (5-5, 3-2). Ness Davis carried it for 91 yards. - AP College Football

  Quarterback Luca Stanzani had four rushing touchdowns and threw for another TD, O'Shawn Ross Jr. had 172 yards rushing on 17 carries, and Long Island University beat New Haven 38-17 on Saturday. Stanzani was 15-of-26 passing for 152 yards with an interception and ran 20 times for 98 yards for LIU (3-5). His four rushing TDs were tied for the most in an FCS game this season.

Brodie Williams picked off a pass from Stanzani and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown that gave New Haven (4-4) a 16-14 lead with 9:34 left in the second quarter. Stanzani ran for a 3-yard touchdown that gave LIU the lead for good with 1:21 left in the first half. Jalen Smith returned the ensuing kickoff 51 yards before kicker Will Johnson forced a fumble that was recovered by Dylan Merrell at the LIU 41 and two plays later Stanzani threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Simpson that made it 28-16 at halftime.   O'Shawn Ross Jr. ran for 110 yards with a touchdown, Luca Stanzani added a touchdown pass, and Long Island defeated Robert Morris 17-7 on Saturday. Long Island (2-5, 1-2 NEC) led 14-0 at halftime after scoring twice in the second quarter. Ross scored on a 6-yard run early in the second and Stanzani hit Jaiden Dozier with a short TD pass 1 1/2 minutes before halftime. Robert Morris scored on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Zach Tanner to Ethan Shine early in the fourth quarter, then Will Johnson's 42-yard field goal wrapped it up for the Sharks late in the period.

Stanzani was 15 of 26 passing for 103 yards. Ross was his top target with six catches for 26 yards. LIU held Robert Morris (1-6, 0-2) to 224 yards and only seven first downs. Tanner had 177 yards passing and Shine led the Colonials in rushing yardage (24) and receiving yardage (119). Although this was not the Sharks' official homecoming game, they played at home for the first time in 35 days. The first-year defensive lineman racked up eight tackles, including six solo stops, while adding 4.0 tackles-for-loss, 2.0 sacks and a forced fumble. A native of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Johnson pushed Sacred Heart's offense back 29 yards with his 4.0 tackles-for-loss, which are the most by an NEC player this season and the second-most by a defensive player in the nation this season.   WEEK 2 NEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rafael Fasolino, LIU, Linebacker, Graduate Student, 6-0, Montrose, NY/Archbishop Stepniac, Last Week's Stats: 8 tackles (5 solo), 1 pass breakup...Fasolino balled out on defense at Eastern Michigan on Saturday, and thanks to his clutch performance, LIU made history by scoring the program's first-ever victory over a FBS squad. In addition, the 28-23 defeat of the Eagles marked the fourth FCS-over-FBS win of the 2025 campaign, and the third in NEC history. Fasolino registered eight total tackles, including five solo stops, and added one pass breakup for the Sharks.

Six of the Montrose, NY native's tackles came in a second half that saw LIU preserve its 14-10 halftime lead and hold on for the wire-to-wire win. Highlighting that stretch was a huge tackle on an Eagles' 4th-and-1 that forced a turnover on downs deep in Eastern Michigan territory in the final quarter. That stop resulted in a 14-yard rushing touchdown run by Sharks' signal caller Luca Stanzani on the first play of the ensuing drive that extended the visiting team's lead to 21-10 with 12:11 remaining on the clock. Entering the game with a 14-10 lead at the 7:19 mark of the second quarter thanks to a pair of rushing scores from Greenwood, the Floridian followed in the footsteps of his fellow signal caller and ran for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to secure the win for the Sharks.

His first score came after LIU's defense forced a pivotal turnover on downs on a 4th-and-1 on the Eagles' 14-yard line. On the first play of the ensuing drive, Stanzani ran into the end zone untouched to extend the lead to 21-10 with 12:12 to go. Later in the stanza, he capped a 75-yard, 16-play drive that chewed up 9:44 of game time with a two-yard rushing touchdown to make it a 28-16 lead heading into the final 1:56. In the Sharks' 28-23 win, Stanzani showed off his versatility by going 12-of-18 for 143 passing yards while adding 69 rushing yards on 10 carries and a 74-yard reception. This is the first NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Offensive Player of the Week award for Stanzani, who was a three-time NEC Rookie of the Week honoree in 2022. - NEC Football

  Ethan Greenwood and Luca Stanzani each ran for two touchdowns and Long Island University defeated Eastern Michigan 28-23 on Saturday night. LIU, a member of the Northeast Conference of the FCS, bounced back from a 55-0 drubbing at the hands of Florida a week ago with their first win over an FBS opponent in program history. The Sharks (1-1) never trailed against Eastern Michigan and Greenwood's 65-yard touchdown run on LIU's first possession set the tone. Greenwood added a short touchdown run early in the second quarter and LIU went on to lead 14-10 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Stanzani's 14-yard run made it 21-10 in the fourth. Eastern Michigan answered with a 40-yard scoring run by Dontae McMillan and a failed two-point try left the score at 21-16. Stanzani added a short TD run near the two-minute mark, giving the Sharks a two-score cushion. Eastern Michigan scored on a Noah Kim 5-yard pass to Jamarien Wheeler with 41 seconds left but Long Island recovered the onside kick. Stanzani and Greenwood are both quarterbacks.
