  2025 MAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Da'Realyst Clark, KOR, Kent State,...Clark was an electric returner for the Flashes this season and made a splash in the season-opener with a 100-yard game-winning kick return to give the Flashes their first win in over two years, defeating Merrimack 21-17. Clark also started homecoming with a bang, returning the opening kickoff 97 yards to give the Flashes a 7-0 lead in a 42-6 rout versus UMass.   Gavin Garcia rushed for a career-high 151 yards and the game-winning score as Kent State rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Northern Illinois, 35-31 on Friday in the season finale for both teams. The Golden Flashes (5-7, 4-4 Mid-American Conference) trailed 31-20 early in the final quarter, but Cade Wolford broke free for a 31-yard rushing score to cut the deficit to one possession. Kent State forced a punt and took the lead for good on Garcia's 26-yard rush with 4:11 left in regulation.

Dru DeShields was 11-of-22 passing for 207 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Dashawn Martin caught three passes for 91 yards and a score, and Wayne Harris had three catches for 46 yards. It was the first win for the Flashes at Northern Illinois since Sept. 25, 1966, breaking a 59-year drought. Northern Illinois (3-9, 2-6) was paced by Chavon Wright's 185 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 30 carries, and Jalen Macon added 65 yards and two scores on 17 carries.   WEEK 12 MAC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mason Woods, Kent State, Linebacker, R-Senior, Woodbridge, Va.,...Woods was all over the field, leading the Golden Flashes with 13 total tackles. Woods also made two tackles for loss and a sack in the 42-35 overtime win at Akron. One of Woods' tackles for loss came on 1st and goal at the one, tackling Gant for a loss of one, where the Flashes would have a crucial goalline stand, holding the Zips to a field goal. Woods also had a tackle for loss on Gant on the first play of the Zips' overtime possession, putting them in a difficult 2nd and 14, where they would not be able to pick up a first down, giving the Flashes a 42-35 win over the Zips, bringing the Wagon Wheel back to Kent. - MAC Football

  WEEK 12 MAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Charlie Durkin, Kent State, Punter, Senior, Akron, OH (Archbishop Hoban),...Charlie Durkin had a phenomenal game punting the ball six times for 245 yards (40.8) with three punts being pinned inside the 20. Durkin had one of the best punts in college football when he punted it to Akron's eight and had backspin on the punt, where it would bounce into Akron's Malcom DeWalt IV, and long snapper Gus Goodell would recover it for the Flashes at the nine. The Flashes' offense took advantage of the turnover, scoring a three-yard touchdown two plays later. Durkin would also have two punts that pinned Akron at their own 10. - MAC Football

  WEEK 12 MAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dru DeShields, Kent State, Quarterback, R-Sophomore, Beloit, OH (West Branch),...Dru DeShields had a career game, throwing for a career-high 317 yards and five touchdowns in Kent State's 42-35 overtime win at Akron. DeShields' five touchdown passes were the most by a Golden Flashes quarterback since Josh Cribbs at UCF in 2004. DeShields completed 17 of 25 passes (68%) with zero interceptions, finding five different receivers for touchdowns. DeShields found Da'Realyst Clark on an 89-yard touchdown in the second quarter, giving the Flashes a 14-10 lead. After trailing 17-14 at halftime, DeShields would find Cade Wolford for 43 yards, Terik Mulder for 7 yards, and Da'Shawn Martin for 27 yards all in the third quarter to give the Flashes a 35-17 lead after three. After Akron came back to tie the game, DeShields would connect with Ardell Banks for the game-winning 25-yard touchdown on the first play of overtime. - MAC Football

  Dru DeShields threw touchdown passes to five different receivers, which included a 25-yarder to Ardell Banks on the first play of overtime, and Kent State beat Akron 42-35 on Tuesday night. DeShields finished 17-of-25 passing for 317 yards for Kent State (4-6, 3-3 Mid-American Conference). The redshirt freshman threw TD passes of 89 yards to Da'Realyst Clark, 43 yards to Cade Wolford, 7 yards to Terik Mulder and 27 yards to DaShawn Martin, the last of which gave the Golden Flashes a 35-17 lead less than a minute into the fourth quarter.

Ben Finley, who connected with Marcel Williams for a 30-yard TD in the second quarter, hit Williams for a 12-yard score with 10:58 left in regulation for Akron (4-7, 3-4). Matthew Schramm kicked a 20-yard field goal about four minutes later that made it 35-27. After a fumble by DeShields was recovered by Ronald Hull at the Akron 42, Finley threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Israel Polk and then hit Williams for the 2-point conversion with 2:04 to go in the fourth quarter to make it 35-all. Finley's pass to Connor Cravaack on fourth-and-4 in OT fell incomplete. Finley was 32-of-59 passing for 424 yards with three touchdowns and an interception and Williams finished with 14 receptions for 206 yards.   Da'Realyst Clark found Wayne Harris wide open in the end zone on a wide receiver pass with 3:15 remaining and Kent State held off Bowling Green 24-21 on Saturday. Kent State trailed 21-3 with 8:47 left in the third quarter before scoring 21 straight. The Golden Flashes went 79 yards in seven plays to get within 21-10 on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Dru DeShields to Cade Wolford. After Bowling Green went three-and-out, Gavin Garcia raced for a 45-yard touchdown to make it 21-17 with 4:23 left in the third. After Kent State's go-ahead trick play, Bowling Green was stopped on two drives in the final three minutes to seal it.

DeShields threw for 160 yards with one touchdown for Kent State (3-5, 2-2 Mid-American Conference). Bowling Green (3-5, 1-3) starting quarterback Baron May was carted off the field with 28 seconds left after a non-contact injury. He threw for 142 yards and a touchdown.   Da'Realyst Clark scored on the opening kickoff and Dru DeShields threw four touchdown passes as Kent State routed Massachusetts, 42-6 on Saturday. The Golden Flashes (2-4, 1-1 MAC) snapped a four-game losing streak and took the lead on the opening kickoff after Clark's 91-yard return.

DaShawn Martin, Sebastian Brown, Ardell Banks, and Terik Mulder each had scoring receptions in Kent State's highest-scoring game since Sept. 17, 2022 (a 63-10 win over Long Island University). The Flashes outgained the Minutemen 330-271 and had four sacks. CJ Young, Jamond Mathis, and Mason Maddox each had solo sacks, and Jaire Rawlison and Darian Blachewicz combined for one more. Joel Boamah and Clinton Robinson each reeled in interceptions. Jordan Nubin added 80 rushing yards and one touchdown on 15 carries. UMass (0-6, 0-2) has lost ten straight games stretching back to last season, last winning 35-7 over Wagner on Oct. 26, 2024. - Kent State/AP College Football

  Da'Realyst Clark returned a kickoff 100-yard for a touchdown to lift Kent State to a 21-17 win over Merrimack on Saturday, ending the Golden Flashes' 21-game losing streak in interim coach Mark Carney's first game. The Warriors took their only lead on a 45-yard field goal by Carlton Thai with 5:40 to play. A turnover set up the score. Clark then fielded the ensuing kickoff a couple yards deep in the end zone and burst up the right hash marks. He bounced off a couple of players just past the 30, kept his balance and raced to the end zone.

The last win for the Golden Flashes was a 38-10 decision over Central Connecticut, three games into the 2023 season. A pair of touchdown receptions by Cade Wolford - from C.J. Montes for 30 yards in the second quarter and from Dru DeShields covering 79 yards early in the third - staked the Golden Flashes to a 14-3 lead. Merrimack then scored on three of four possessions. Ayden Pereira found Seth Sweitzer behind the defense for 36 yards and then hit Aveon Smith for the 2-point conversion that made it 14-14.   University of New Mexico quarterback CJ Montes has entered the transfer portal. The rising sophomore from Pasadena, California, made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter. "Thank you to the University of New Mexico & the coaching staff for the opportunity to compete @ the highest level academically & athletically," Montes posted. "Thank you to all the fans for the love & support. Everything being said, I am entering the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility."

Montes played in only three games as a freshman in 2021, retaining his redshirt status for that season. In his two seasons at UNM, Montes played in seven games and completed 37 of 84 passes with three interceptions and no touchdowns. His departure leaves the team with two returning scholarship quarterbacks, juniors Justin Holaday and Isaiah Chavez. - Albuquerque Journal

West finished in the top-10 in the MAC with a team and career best 11.5 tackles for loss. Included in that lot are 4.5 sacks, good for second on the team. He helped secure the Wagon Wheel for the fourth-straight season with two sacks and three tackles for loss in the victory. West was also a key member on the Flashes' special teams, catching a pass to convert a fake punt against Georgia and returning a kick for 21 yards against Ball State. - Kent State Football

  Tommy Ulatowski threw a 7-yard touchdown to Devontez Walker and the play served as the game-winner as Kent State beat Buffalo 30-27 in overtime on Saturday, denying the Bulls bowl eligibility. Kent State (5-6, 4-3 Mid-American) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter on consecutive drives to knot the score at 24-24 to force the extra session. Each drive took 12 plays, the first 80 yards and the second 76. Ja'Shaun Poke's 10-yard scoring run on fourth-and-4 reduced the Golden Flashes' deficit to 24-17. After forcing Buffalo to punt, Marquez Cooper ran it in from the 2 to force overtime. Cooper finished with 140 yards rushing on 30 carries with two touchdowns. Buffalo's Matt Meyers scored three touchdowns and ran for 109 yards on 21 carries. Buffalo faces Akron on Dec. 2 with postseason aspirations on the line. - Kent State/AP College Football
