Kyle Vantrease threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes and ran for a score to rally Georgia Southern to a 34-23 victory over Ball State on Saturday night. Georgia Southern (3-1) trailed 23-20 after Ball State's Ben VonGunten kicked a 25-yard field goal with 12:39 remaining in the game. Georgia Southern was forced to punt on its next possession, but Anthony Beck II's punt pinned the Cardinals at their own 8-yard line. The Eagles' defense forced a three-and-out and they got the ball back on the Ball State 43-yard line. Six plays later Vantrease hit JJay Mcafee for a 7-yard touchdown and a 27-23 lead with 7:04 left. Ball State (1-3) was forced to punt and Vantrease threw a 47-yard scoring strike to Amare Jones to finish off a 10-play 86-yard drive and close out the win.

Vantrease completed 26 of 39 passes for 310 yards for the Eagles. He had a 4-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter to break a 13-all tie. Derwin Burgess Jr. had five catches for 133 yards. John Paddock totaled 338 yards on 33-of-47 passing for the Cardinals with two touchdowns and an interception. Jayshon Jackson hauled in 10 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Tanner Koziol had the other TD catch. Carson Steele rushed for 119 yards on 23 carries. - Georgia Southern/AP College Football

Georgia Southern coach Clay Helton said after Saturday's loss to UAB that inside linebacker and team captain Todd Bradley-Glenn suffered a dislocated elbow that caused him to leave the game near the close of the third quarter. "We'll see how significant it is," Helton said. "They did get it back in place and they've got it slinged up. Depending on what the MRI says later on, we'll see how it goes." Bradley-Glenn, in three quarters of play, made four solo tackles and assisted on three others and also had a quarterback hurry. He is in his seventh year after a series of season-ending football injuries and overcoming cancer in high school. He voted one of the team captains before the 2022 opener. - Savannah Morning News

Brin went into the game averaging 391.0 yards passing per game, most in FBS this season. Stokes, who missed most of last season due to a quadriceps injury, has 28 receptions for 457 yards and three touchdowns in three games this season. JuanCarlos Santana caught three passes for 137 yards - including a 59-yard reception that set up a 7-yard TD pass from Brin to Jordan Ford with 8:24 left in the second quarter and 31-yard scoring reception that made it 33-0.

Zion Webb completed 3 of 9 passes for 32 yards for Jacksonville State (3-1) and added 10 carries for 52 yards, including his seventh rushing touchdown of the season, a 3-yarder that made it 40-10 early in third quarter. The Gamecocks, in their final FCS season before joining Conference USA of the FBS in 2023, lost for the first time under coach Rich Rodriguez. Rodriguez was hired shortly after the conclusion of last season and was previously head coach at West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona. - Tulsa/AP College Football

Davis Brin threw four touchdown passes, Steven Anderson scored on a 1-yard run in the closing seconds and Tulsa blew a 17-point lead before the Golden Hurricane beat Northern Illinois 38-35 Saturday night. Rocky Lombardi threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Cole Tucker on the first play of the fourth quarter that gave the Huskies (1-1) their first lead at 28-24. Davis, on fourth-and-goal, answered with a 1-yard scoring strike to Keylon Stokes with 10:36 left but Lombardi added a 1-yard TD run to make it 35-31 with 5:57 to play.

Anderson was stopped for a 1-yard loss on fourth-and-1 from the NIU 46 but the Huskies failed to convert on fourth down a few plays later and Tulsa (1-1) took possession at its own 48 with 1:54 to go. Brin threw an incomplete pass and then was sacked by Michael Kennedy for a 4-yard loss before he hit Malachi Jones on third-and-14 for a 24-yard gain and then, a play later, connected with Stokes for a 31 yards before Anderson's touchdown capped the scoring with 58 seconds remaining. Lombardi was 18-of-31 passing for 259 yards and three touchdowns with an interception and Tucker finished with seven receptions for 123 yards. - Tulsa/AP College Football

Kyle Vantrease scored on an 8-yard run with 36 seconds left after Nebraska had taken its first lead, and Georgia Southern beat the three-touchdown-favorite Cornhuskers 45-42 on Saturday night. The Huskers' Timmy Bleekrode was wide left with a 52-yard field goal attempt as time ran out, and Georgia Southern players ran onto the field to celebrate the program's first win in 13 games against Power Five opponents. The loss again turns up the pressure on embattled Nebraska coach Scott Frost, who now faces a home game next week against No. 7 Oklahoma. The Huskers (1-2) had come into the Georgia Southern game 214-0 when scoring at least 35 points at Memorial Stadium.

The Eagles (2-0) piled up 642 yards, none bigger than the 75 they moved in 11 plays for the winning touchdown. Kyle Vantrease converted a fourth-and-2 pass and threw 27 yards to Khaleb Hood before he took off up the middle on a designed quarterback run for the go-ahead score. Casey Thompson moved the Huskers from their 23 to the Eagles' 34 before Bleekrode pulled his field-goal try to the left. Nebraska had taken the lead on Thompson's 1-yard run with 3:05 left after Marques Buford's second interception of the game turned back the Eagles as they tried to build on a three-point lead. Thompson led the Huskers 98 yards in 15 plays. Thompson and Anthony Grant churned out yards on the ground and Marcus Washington made a catch at the 1 that was upheld on video review before Thompson went over the pile at the goal line. The victory comes in only the second game for Georgia Southern coach Clay Helton, and it came almost a year to the day that Southern California fired him two games into his seventh season. - Georgia Southern/AP College Football

Kyle Vantrease threw four touchdowns passes and Georgia Southern gave new coach Clay Helton a 59-7 victory over Morgan State on Saturday night. Helton was Southern California's head coach from 2015-2021 before being fired last September after a 1-1 start. Seven weeks later, Georgia State hired Helton for the 2022 season. Vantrease put the ball up 46 times, completing 29 for 367 yards for a Georgia Southern program that has traditionally emphasized the run. He was intercepted once. Ten receivers made catches with Sam Kennerson grabbing seven passes for 99 yards and Khaleb Hood nabbing six for 88 and a touchdown. OJ Arnold and Jalen White had two scores each. It was 17-7 at halftime and 31-7 after three quarters before the Eagles added 28 points in the fourth. Alfonzo Graham rushed for 106 yards on 14 carries and Jordan Toles had a 50-yard pick-6 for the Bears, who have a new head coach in Damon Wilson. The Bears had four turnovers. Georgia Southern has won all 11 of its matchups against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference teams. - Georgia Southern/AP College Football

Camden Brown's name has been a popular one around Auburn's athletics complex during the first week of fall camp, and it's not hard to see why. At 6-foot-3 and 202 pounds, Brown looks the part of an SEC receiver; he's the third-tallest wideout on Auburn's roster (an inch shorter than junior Ze'Vian Capers and two shorter than Landen King, who converted from tight end), and only King (at 220 pounds) has a bigger frame than Brown. As a true freshman, Brown's size makes him stand out, but it has been his playmaking ability that has really garnered attention early in fall camp. He was the offensive playmaker of the day during Tuesday's practice - a day in which Auburn's receivers had too many drops, according to position coach Ike Hilliard, but still saw the room earn top honors as a group from the coaching staff - and was the first freshman to get called up to the veterans' session during split-squad practices last week.

That call-up came after he was named the playmaker of the day during the first newcomers' practice of the preseason. "He's cut from a kind of an older-school work ethic process that, you know, this setup is not foreign to him," Hilliard said. "He adapted a little bit better and earlier than the rest of the guys...Strong young human, I can tell you that now. Big body, big frame. Very, very mature for his age. So, I'm excited about that." Brown seems intent on working his way into the rotation at receiver right away. It's still early in the preseason, but the last few days he has routinely been seen working with the second group of wide receivers along with LSU transfer Koy Moore and redshirt junior Ja'Varrius Johnson. Hilliard used the word "outstanding" to describe Brown's performance so far in fall camp, but the freshman still naturally has to fine-tune some aspects of his game-details when it comes to route-running and mastering concepts in the Tigers' scheme; after all, he only arrived on campus this summer, and he's less than a week into his first college practices. - Birmingham News

Luke Deal's eyes lit up, and he began nodding his head in excitement from behind the podium inside the auditorium of Auburn's athletics complex. The redshirt junior tight end spoke highly of many of his teammates Tuesday afternoon - he could easily start a side hustle as a hype-man - but there was one name that really seemed to conjure up some enthusiasm when Deal was asked about him: true freshman wide receiver Camden Brown. "He's special," Deal said. "He'll be really good. You obviously look at him - he's long, he's strong, he's athletic."
