  2025 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Sean Allison, Drake,...Allison, from Hinsdale, Illinois, becomes the sixth Drake athlete to claim the league's Defensive Player of the Year honor. He finished the season with 126 total tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, and two interceptions. Allison led the league and ranked among the FCS Top 12 in both total tackles per game (10.5, 7th in the FCS) and solo tackles per game (5.17, 12th). He led a Drake defense that held PFL opponents to 11.0 points per game and 287.6 yards per game, ranking first and second in the league. Allison had eight double-digit tackle outings, including a five-game streak of such outings to end the regular season. - Pioneer Football League

  WEEK 12 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sean Allison, Drake (Senior, Linebacker, Hinsdale, Illinois),...Allison intercepted two passes and has 12 tackles (eight solo) to lead a Drake defensive effort that held Dayton off the scoreboard until under nine minutes remaining in the game en route to a 14-6 victory on the road. Allison's first interception came in the end zone late in the first quarter to deny Dayton what proved to be a pivotal scoring opportunity. Allison's second interception, which included a 16-yard return, came on Dayton's first drive of the second half, stopping a drive that had reached midfield. He then had a pass breakup on a 4th-and-12 opportunity on the Drake 15-yard line, forcing a key turnover on downs.   Logan Inagawa threw for 244 yards and a touchdown and Drake remained unbeaten in the Pioneer Football League by beating Butler 24-19 on Saturday. Drake's Isaiah Bragg returned the opening kickoff 32 yards to the Drake 34. On the first play from scrimmage, Nick Herman took the handoff and ran 66 yards to the end zone for a 7-0 Drake (6-2, 5-0) lead. Butler (5-4, 3-2) tied it on its second drive when Reagan Andrew connected with Archie Cox deep for a 54-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter.

With 2:35 before halftime, Inagawa led an 11-play, 85-yard drive that took 6:11 to put Drake back out front 14-7. Butler took the opening kickoff to the second half and traveled 75 yards in nine plays and scored when Andrew threw a 3-yard touchdown to Chet Yardley. Drake blocked the extra-point attempt to maintain a 14-13 lead. Drake extended its lead to 17-13 on a 51-yard field goal by Harry Balke on the following drive and sealed it early in the fourth when Luke Woodson crashed in from the 1. Andrew scored the final points of the contest when he ran it in from the 3 with 3:38 left. He threw for 191 yards, two touchdowns and was intercepted once. - AP College Football

  Logan Inagawa accounted for three touchdowns, Taj Hughes had 106 yards receiving and a TD on seven receptions and Drake beat Marist 31-17 on Saturday. Jackson Voth returned a punt 46 yards to the 4 and two plays later Luke Woodson ran 4 yards for a TD that gave Drake (5-2, 4-0 Pioneer Football League) the lead for good at 24-17 with 4:59 left in the third quarter. Inagawa was 10-of-13 passing for 163 yards and two touchdowns and added 81 yards rushing, which included a 8-yard TD, on 17 carries. Tristan Shannon had 58 yards rushing and scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards for Marist (3-5, 1-3). Drake has won four in a row overall and five straight, dating to last season, in conference play. - AP College Football

  WEEK 7 FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Harry Balke, Drake, PK, Sr., 6-4, 220,...Drake defeated San Diego with a score on the game's final play for the third straight season, and this time it happened on Balke's 55-yard field goal to produce a 19-16 win in the Pioneer Football League. It was the longest walk-off field goal in the FCS since 2022. Balke, a San Diego native who was making a homecoming, also kicked a 43-yard field goal to open the fourth quarter, finishing with seven points.   Harry Balke's career-best 55-yard field goal as time expired sent Drake past San Diego 19-16 on Saturday. A senior transfer from NAIA Benedictine College (Kansas), Balke also connected from 43 yards to bring the Bulldogs (3-2, 2-0 Pioneer Football League) within three early in the third. Balke had missed the extra point on the previous scoring drive. Drake's Nick Herman rushed for 96 yards and added 35 receiving yards, and Luke Woodson added 55 yards and a score on the ground.

After Logan Inagawa's 5-yard scoring run with 4:38 remaining, San Diego ran the clock to 1:09 as Emiliano Salazar tied the game with a 41-yard field goal. Drake answered with a seven-play, 27-yard drive to the San Diego 38 to set up Balke's game-winner. The Toreros (3-4, 1-2) lost their third straight game against Drake, and lost on a walk-off field goal for the second straight year. Shane Dunning's 48-yard kick gave Drake a 30-28 victory on Sept. 28, 2024. - AP College Football

Through the air, he completed 14-of-16 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns. Spellman used his legs to score another two touchdowns in a seven-carry, 37-yard performance.   Chase Spellman accounted for four touchdowns - two passing and two running - to lead Drake to a 41-7 victory over Division II-member Upper Iowa in the debut of Joe Woodley as coach of the Bulldogs on Thursday night. Spellman completed 14 of 16 passes for 233 yards with an interception. Hank Foley caught five passes for 127 yards with two TDs. Spellman accounted for three long touchdowns in the first 18 minutes of play. His 27-yard pass to Foley provided the first score of the game and he added a 28-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 lead through the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Foley and Spellman connected on a 48-yard scoring pass. Drake led 24-0 at halftime and added a short touchdown run by Spellman and a 22-yard pass from Xavier Washington to Jaden Meizinger in the second half. Upper Iowa scored on Darryl Overstreet Jr.'s 34-yard pass to Mante Morrow in the third quarter. Overstreet was 15-for-26 passing for 174 yards. Woodley has never lost a regular season game as a college coach. At NAIA Grand View, his teams went 72-5 overall in six seasons and won the national championship in 2024. - AP College Football

  2023 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Shane Dunning, Drake,...Dunning, from Muskego, Wisconsin, handled kicking and punting duties for the Bulldogs this season. He finished with 15 field goals made, including a league-leading 14 field goals in PFL play, and finished the season with 67 points after adding 22 PATs. Dunning averaged 37.96 yards per punt in all games, with a league-leading 24 of his 55 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. He finished the regular season ranked among the FCS Top 12 in field-goal percentage (9th, 83.3 percent) and field goals per game (11th, 1.36 per game). Dunning is the first Drake student-athlete to win the league's special teams award since placekicker Josh Lee in 2016. - Pioneer Football League

  Luke Bailey threw two touchdown passes, including an 80-yarder to Brandon Langdok, and Dorian Boyland ran for 33-yard TD to help Drake beat Valparaiso 24-0 Saturday. On second-and-10 from the 20, Langdok slipped under the coverage, caught a short pass as he raced across the field and beat the Beacons secondary to the end zone to give Drake (3-8, 3-5 Pioneer League) a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. Boyland's touchdown made it 17-0 before halftime and Bailey hit Sam Rodriguez for an 18-yard TD that capped the scoring with 11:05 to play. With Butler driving in a tie game, Pollock intercepted a pass and returned it 24 yards to the Butler 38-yard line. Three plays later, Luke Williams hit a 22-yard field goal with eight seconds left. Pollock also had 15 tackles (10 solo) and a tackle for loss in the victory, including six tackles in the fourth quarter. - PFL Football

  Luke Williams made a 22-yard field goal with eight seconds left to help Drake beat Butler 27-24 on Saturday. Luka Zurak kicked a 33-yard field goal for Butler with 4:52 left to tie it at 24. Drake went three-and-out but Butler quarterback Bret Bushka was intercepted with less than a minute left by Tanner Pollock, who returned it past midfield to the 38, setting up Williams' make. Luke Bailey threw for 178 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for Drake (2-8, 2-5 Pioneer). Dorian Boyland carried it 23 time for 99 yards and a touchdown. Bushka was 25 of 36 for 248 yard with three touchdowns and two interceptions for Butler (7-3, 5-2). Butler had 10 more first downs than Drake and won time of possession by more than ten minutes. - AP College Football
