  Jackson Voth caught two touchdown passes, Nick Herman, Jaden Meizinger, and Hank Foley each recorded a rushing touchdown, and Drake beat Davidson 45-0 on Saturday. Drake (4-2, 3-0 Pioneer Football League) took a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Herman broke free for a 24-yard score and Foley found the end zone on a jet sweep play. Quarterback Logan Inagawa found Taj Hughes for a 2-yard TD. Inagawa went 16 for 22, with 186 yards and three touchdowns. Herman rushed for 134 yards on 14 carries. Voth scored on a 5-yard reception and a 29-yard pass up the sideline. Meizinger capped the scoring in the fourth with a 6-yard rush. He finished with 98 yards on 13 carries. Coulter Cleland completed 22 of 41 passes for 252 yards for Davidson (1-6, 0-3), with 12 catches and 148 yards by Ivan Hoyt. - AP College Football

  WEEK 7 FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Harry Balke, Drake, PK, Sr., 6-4, 220,...Drake defeated San Diego with a score on the game's final play for the third straight season, and this time it happened on Balke's 55-yard field goal to produce a 19-16 win in the Pioneer Football League. It was the longest walk-off field goal in the FCS since 2022. Balke, a San Diego native who was making a homecoming, also kicked a 43-yard field goal to open the fourth quarter, finishing with seven points.   Harry Balke's career-best 55-yard field goal as time expired sent Drake past San Diego 19-16 on Saturday. A senior transfer from NAIA Benedictine College (Kansas), Balke also connected from 43 yards to bring the Bulldogs (3-2, 2-0 Pioneer Football League) within three early in the third. Balke had missed the extra point on the previous scoring drive. Drake's Nick Herman rushed for 96 yards and added 35 receiving yards, and Luke Woodson added 55 yards and a score on the ground.

After Logan Inagawa's 5-yard scoring run with 4:38 remaining, San Diego ran the clock to 1:09 as Emiliano Salazar tied the game with a 41-yard field goal. Drake answered with a seven-play, 27-yard drive to the San Diego 38 to set up Balke's game-winner. The Toreros (3-4, 1-2) lost their third straight game against Drake, and lost on a walk-off field goal for the second straight year. Shane Dunning's 48-yard kick gave Drake a 30-28 victory on Sept. 28, 2024. - AP College Football

Through the air, he completed 14-of-16 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns. Spellman used his legs to score another two touchdowns in a seven-carry, 37-yard performance.   Chase Spellman accounted for four touchdowns - two passing and two running - to lead Drake to a 41-7 victory over Division II-member Upper Iowa in the debut of Joe Woodley as coach of the Bulldogs on Thursday night. Spellman completed 14 of 16 passes for 233 yards with an interception. Hank Foley caught five passes for 127 yards with two TDs. Spellman accounted for three long touchdowns in the first 18 minutes of play. His 27-yard pass to Foley provided the first score of the game and he added a 28-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 lead through the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Foley and Spellman connected on a 48-yard scoring pass. Drake led 24-0 at halftime and added a short touchdown run by Spellman and a 22-yard pass from Xavier Washington to Jaden Meizinger in the second half. Upper Iowa scored on Darryl Overstreet Jr.'s 34-yard pass to Mante Morrow in the third quarter. Overstreet was 15-for-26 passing for 174 yards. Woodley has never lost a regular season game as a college coach. At NAIA Grand View, his teams went 72-5 overall in six seasons and won the national championship in 2024. - AP College Football

  2023 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Shane Dunning, Drake,...Dunning, from Muskego, Wisconsin, handled kicking and punting duties for the Bulldogs this season. He finished with 15 field goals made, including a league-leading 14 field goals in PFL play, and finished the season with 67 points after adding 22 PATs. Dunning averaged 37.96 yards per punt in all games, with a league-leading 24 of his 55 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. He finished the regular season ranked among the FCS Top 12 in field-goal percentage (9th, 83.3 percent) and field goals per game (11th, 1.36 per game). On second-and-10 from the 20, Langdok slipped under the coverage, caught a short pass as he raced across the field and beat the Beacons secondary to the end zone to give Drake (3-8, 3-5 Pioneer League) a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. Boyland's touchdown made it 17-0 before halftime and Bailey hit Sam Rodriguez for an 18-yard TD that capped the scoring with 11:05 to play.   Luke Williams made a 22-yard field goal with eight seconds left to help Drake beat Butler 27-24 on Saturday. Luka Zurak kicked a 33-yard field goal for Butler with 4:52 left to tie it at 24. Drake went three-and-out but Butler quarterback Bret Bushka was intercepted with less than a minute left by Tanner Pollock, who returned it past midfield to the 38, setting up Williams' make. Luke Bailey threw for 178 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for Drake (2-8, 2-5 Pioneer). Dorian Boyland carried it 23 time for 99 yards and a touchdown. Bushka was 25 of 36 for 248 yard with three touchdowns and two interceptions for Butler (7-3, 5-2).   Cross Robinson scored on a short run in the third quarter and Drake ran out the final four minutes to secure a 6-3 victory over Butler on Saturday in the battle of the Bulldogs. Drake missed a 49-yard field goal with 5:53 remaining in the fourth, but forced a three-and-out to get the ball back. Drake ran out the clock by picking up first downs on Blake Ellingson's 6-yard run and his 12-yard connection with Ryan Hayes.

Ellingson was 13 of 23 for 181 yards for Drake (2-3, 1-1 Pioneer), which snapped a three-game losing streak. Robinson carried it 19 times for 63 yards, and Colin Howard caught four passes for 92 yards. Robinson capped a 90-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown run to give Drake a three-point lead before the PAT was missed with 4:53 left in the third. Bret Bushka completed 12 of 20 passes for 109 yards, and he carried it 14 times for 78 yards for Butler (2-3, 0-1). Yogi Flager caught six passes for 82 yards. The Butler defense has not allowed a 100-yard receiver since 2019, spanning 11 games. - AP College Football

  SEPT 6 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alex Rogers, Drake, Senior (5th), Safety, Racine, Wisconsin,...Rogers picked off a pass midway through the second quarter to help Drake post a 45-3 victory against West Virginia Wesleyan, Thursday. With West Virginia Wesleyan driving deep into Drake territory, Rodgers intercepted a pass at the Drake 8-yard line and returned it 18 yards with a personal foul adding to the territory gained on the play. Drake would convert the turnover into a touchdown seven plays later to extend its lead to 28-0. Rogers also was credited with three tackles (two solo) in the victory as Drake's defense held West Virginia Wesleyan to 136 passing yards and 179 total offensive yards on only 53 plays from scrimmage.   Ian Corwin ran for two scores and passed for a third in the first half as Drake opened its season with a 45-3 win over Division II West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday night. Corwin, who missed one game and struggled with injuries throughout the abbreviated spring season, engineered scoring drives on the Bulldogs' first three possessions. Caden Meis punched in from the 1 to cap a seven-play, 48-yard drive.

Cross Robinson cashed in a six-play, 49-yard drive, scoring from 3 yards out, and Corwin ran the final yard after an eight-play, 45-yard drive to make it 21-0 after one quarter. Corwin scampered 28 yards for his second rushing touchdown in the second quarter then fired a 79-yard scoring pass to Colin Howard that made it a 35-0 lead at halftime. Trailing 45-0, West Virginia Wesleyan mounted a 13-play, third-quarter drive that stalled at the Drake 4 and resulted in a 21-yard field goal by Liam Depp to avoid the shutout. Corwin completed 8 of 11 passes for 180 yards. Robinson finished with 100 rushing yards on 13 carries and Meis carried 19 times for 98 yards. - AP College Football/Drake Football
