  Draft Scout by Conference

Tony Bradford lining up alongside Jaylon Hutchings was a standard feature of the Texas Tech defensive line last season. Come the 2021 football season, they could become more of a tag team - as in, one comes in, one goes out, be it from one series to the next or within a series. Hutchings, the 6-foot, 300-pound junior from Forney, has started 20 games at nose tackle. Bradford, the 6-1, 290-pound junior from Galena Park North Shore, started eight games last season - it would've been all 10 if not for injury - at defensive tackle. But defensive coordinator Keith Patterson has both his short, stout cornerstones playing nose tackle through the first five sessions of spring practice and liking what he sees. "It's really strange," Patterson said Friday. "When you move somebody from over the tackle and move them down over the nose, it's amazing how much quicker and explosive they look. "If you put them out there in a four- or five-technique (against an offensive tackle), he just looks like a guy. You move him down into a zero (technique) nose, and all of a sudden he just looks athletic. He's explosive. He's coming off and he's pounding you in the face, pounding you in the face." - Lubbock Avalanche Journal
