Draft Scout College Football Player News

Justin Herbert's accomplishments at Oregon are still being honored as the quarterback prepares for his rookie season with the Los Angeles Chargers. Herbert was named the Division I CoSIDA Academic all-American of the year for all sports on Thursday, joining Bill Musgrave (1990) and Galen Rupp (2009) as the only Oregon athletes to claim the award. "It's a huge honor," Herbert, a three-time academic all-American, said in a release. "It's a reflection of the University of Oregon and our football program. The way we did things on and off the field, the way that coach (Mario) Cristobal and coach (Marcus) Arroyo did things and what they emphasized set the standard for everyone.

"I couldn't have done it without them, I couldn't have done it without the Jaqua Center staff at the University of Oregon and all the remarkable opportunities we were given. I just put the work in and they gave me the opportunities. I couldn't be more thankful." As a senior, Herbert won the Campbell Trophy, known as the "academic Heisman," and was the Pac-12's football scholar of the year. The Ducks' four-year starter was also named the academic team member of the year for football by CoSIDA for the second consecutive year. - Register Guard
