Whetzel stepped away from OSU football last August for personal reasons, then was declared out of the program in October. Whetzel eventually putting his name into the NCAA transfer portal in December. Whetzel, signed by Oregon State coach Gary Andersen in 2016, played outside linebacker in 2017 and 2018.
