Auburn standout linebacker Xavier Atkins is no longer with the program. Atkins made the announcement late Monday on social media, saying he plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens later this year. The Tigers have since removed Atkins from their online roster. "I have nothing but respect Auburn University and will continue to support my teammates this season," Atkins posted on X. "My focus is on my health, my family and on finishing up the academic semester strong, and I'll be entering the trans fer portal at the appropriate time." Atkins sat out last week's upset of then-No. 1 Georgia for undisclosed reasons, with coach Alex Golesh saying he would keep the details "in house." Golesh offered no update on Atkins on Monday other than saying they a re "still working through it." Atkins earned second-team All-America honors after a breakout sophomore season in 2025. In five games this season, he has 37 tackles, including three sacks, and an interception. Without Atkins, sophomore Bryce Deas and juni or De'Marcus Riddick are expected to take on larger roles alongside Elijah Melendez. - AP College Football

Auburn will be without standout linebacker Xavier Atkins, the team's second-leading tackler, against top-ranked Georgia on Saturday. Coach Alex Golesh made the announcement Monday, although he declined to revealed why Atkins won't make the trip to Athens , Georgia, for the Southeastern Conference game known as "The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry." "Keep it in house in terms of anything beyond that, and really that'll be the only piece of it that I'll be addressing," Golesh said. "He won't be with us this we ek for the game on Saturday. Won't be available, and then we'll revisit early next week when we meet again here." Atkins has been one of Auburn's most productive defensive players this season. He has 37 tackles, including 7 1/2 for loss. Without Atkins, sophomore Bryce Deas is expected to take on a larger role alongside Elijah Melendez. WEEK 9 SEC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Xavier Atkins, LB, Auburn,...Recorded a career-high 13 tackles, including a pair of sacks and 4.0 TFL, in the come-from-behind win at Arkansas...His 13 tackles were the most by an Auburn player since Owen Pappo e recorded 16 tackles vs. Ole Miss on Oct. 15, 2022...It marked the fifth straight SEC game Atkins has led the team or tied for the team lead in tackles and was his third game with 10 or more tackles in SEC play...The game also marked Atkins' second game with 4.0 TFL this season, becoming the first Auburn player since Stanley McClover in 2005 to have multiple games with 4.0+ TFL in a season...He has accounted for two of the four 4.0 TFL games in the SEC this season...Through eight games, Atkins leads th e SEC with 13.0 TFL and ranks tied for second in the league with 61 tackles and 7.0 sacks...His 13.0 TFL are the most for an Auburn underclassman since Nick Coe had 13.5 in 2018 and are the most by an inside LB since DeShaun Davis had 15.0 in 2018...In f ive SEC games, Atkins leads the league with 9.0 TFL (2.5 more than any other player) and ranks second in tackles (49) and third in sacks (5.0). - SEC Football
