Eli Gillman ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns, Kenzel Lawler returned an interception 21 yards for a TD, and Montana beat Cal Poly 28-9 on Saturday. Keali'i Ah Yat was 27-of-41 passing for 257 yards with a 24-yard scoring strike to Michael Wortham tha t gave Montana the lead for good at 14-9 early in the fourth quarter. Wortham finished with 84 yards receiving on 10 catches for Montana (6-0, 3-0 Big Sky Conference), ranked No. 4 in the FCS coaches poll.Ty Dieffenbach threw a short pass to Brook s Wheatley who raced 21 yards to the end zone for a 26-yard touchdown (the 2-point conversion failed) early in the second quarter and Nick Serna kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give Cal Poly (3-4, 1-2) a 9-0 lead. After t he Grizzlies punted on the opening possession of the second half, Lawler's pick-6 got Montana on the scoreboard before Wortham's TD catch with 13:37 to play capped a 14-play, 96-yard drive. WEEK 2 BIG SKY CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Eli Gillman, Montana (RB, R-Jr., Dassel, Minn.),...Eli Gillman broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run on his first touch of the game and didn't look back, rushing for a career-high 198 yards and three touch downs on just 15 carries in Montana's win over Central Washington. Gillman's 198 is a Big Sky high and the third-best rushing game in, not only the FCS, but in all of D-I football so far this season. The three rushing TDs for Gillman is also the most of any rusher in the Big Sky so far this season, and his 13.2 yards per carry average is also a new single game career high and leads the league among backs with six-plus carries. - Big Sky Football

Eli Gillman ran for 198 yards and three touchdowns, Keali'i Ah Yat threw for a pair of scores and Montana rolled to a season-opening 42-17 victory over Division II Central Washington on Saturday night. Gillman broke loose on a 54-yard touchdown run on Mo ntana's opening drive. Steve Rocker Jr.'s 5-yard TD run made it 14-3 heading into the second quarter.Beau Phillips ran for a 31-yard touchdown late in the second to pull Central Washington (1-1) to 17-14. But on the next possession, Ah Yat connect ed with Drew Deck on a 50-yard touchdown pass just before halftime. Gillman hit Michael Worthan on a 76-yard touchdown pass midway through the third and Gilliam then added TD runs from 11 and 1 yard to cap the scoring. Ah Yat was 14-of-24 passing for 250 yards. Worthan, who was Eastern Washington's quarterback last season, caught six passes for 120 yards. Rocker finished with 72 yards rushing. Kennedy McGill completed 7 of 16 passes for 76 yards for CWU. Eli Gillman ran for 89 yards and two touchdowns and Montana held off Missouri State for a 29-24 victory on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams. Jmariyae Robinson's 7-yard touchdown run capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive that pulled Missouri S tate to 26-24 with 4:43 to play. Montana's Ty Morrison made his third field goal of the game - a 38-yarder- to cap the scoring with 1:38 left. Back-to-back sacks deep inside Missouri State territory on the Bears' final possession sealed it for the FCS th ird-ranked Grizzlies. Gillman's 37-yard touchdown run gave the Grizzlies a 7-6 lead late in the first quarter. Morrison's field goals from 35 and 22 yards stretched the advantage to 12-10 at intermission.Jayden Becks' 32-yard run gave the Bears a 17-12 lead early in the third quarter. Montana answered with a Logan Fife 34-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Harris followed by a Gillman 2-yard TD run to take a 26-17 lead with 9:56 to play. Jacob Clark was 23-of-39 passing for 257 yards with one intercep tion for Missouri State. Montana advanced to the program's eighth FCS title game last season but lost to South Dakota State 23-3 and is the reigning Big Sky Conference champions.
