Gavin Rutherford and Jerrell Wimbley each had touchdown runs, and Stephen F. Austin jumped out early and beat Lamar 26-15 on Saturday night to clinch at least a share of the Southland Conference title. It was the ninth straight win for the FCS 17th-ranked Lumberjacks (9-2, 7-0), who have a one-game lead over Southeastern Louisiana (8-3, 6-1) in the conference and will conclude their regular season on the road against Northwestern State (0-7, 1-10). Wimbley's 13-yard touchdown run gave the Lumberjacks a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. Rutherford's 9-yard TD run stretched the lead to 23-7 midway through the third. Wimbley had 19 carries for 65 yards rushing. Rutherford was 17-of-31 passing for 140 yards and he added 75 yards on the ground on 13 carries.

Carlos Alvarado made field goals from 43 and 20 yards, and his 33-yarder made it 26-7 with 8:36 remaining. Jacob Hand also kicked a 56-yard field goal for the Lumberjacks. Aiden McCown and Robert Coleman combined for 18-of-26 passing for 124 yards for No. 14 Lamar (8-3, 5-2). LaDamian McDowell had a 54-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to pull the Cardinals to 10-7. Xavier Coleman added a short-yardage TD run with 4:14 to play. Stephen F.   Isaiah Davis caught two touchdown passes, four other players found the end zone, and Stephen F. Austin defeated Houston Christian in a 50-3 rout to stay perfect in Southland Conference play. The Lumberjacks (8-2, 6-0), ranked 21st in the FCS Coaches Poll, were dominant on both sides of the ball, gaining 400 total yards to the Huskies' 134. Defensively, SFA had six sacks, two interceptions, and 13 tackles for loss.

Jerrell Wimbley (15 carries, 48 yards) rushed for a score, and JT Kitna scored his first career rushing touchdown and threw for another as the backups entered the game in the fourth quarter. Kylon Harris and Jordan Nabors each had touchdown receptions. Three straight touchdown drives in the third quarter put the game firmly out of reach. Houston Christian's lone points, a 45-yard field goal from Ryan Zuckert, came early in the second quarter. SFA still leads the series, 6-1 since 2014. Houston Christian's lone win was a 31-24 decision in 2016. - AP College Football

Jerrell Wimbley and Gavin Rutherford each ran for a touchdown, Bugs Mortimer returned a punt 66 yards for a TD, and Stephen F. Austin beat Nicholls 34-7 on a rain-soaked Saturday night for its fifth consecutive win. Nicholls (1-6, 1-2 Southland Conference) has lost six in a row since a 20-6 win over Incarnate Word in the season opener. Jacob Hand kicked a 54-yard field goal for Stephen F. Austin (5-2, 3-0) to open the scoring less than two minutes into the game, Rutherford scored on a 2-yard run late in the first quarter and Wimbley ran for a 5-yard TD to make it 16-0 early in the second.

Mortimer caught a punt at the 34, started right before cutting back to his left and running to the sideline where, near midfield, he evaded four would-be tacklers. Mortimer worked all the way back to the right sideline and raced to the end zone for a touchdown early in the third quarter to give the Lumberjacks a 26-0 lead. Sam Vidlak was 17-of-25 passing for 179 yards and threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Clayton Wayland. The Colonels finished with 187 total yards, 56 rushing. The game was delayed about 90 minutes at halftime and then again for another two-plus hours early in the third quarter due to inclement weather in the area. - AP College Football
