| Diego Pavia dove across the goal line for a 1-yard touchdown with 1:52 left as No. 10 Vanderbilt beat 15th-ranked Missouri 17-10 Saturday to extend the Commodores' best start in more than 80 years. Vanderbilt improved to 7-1 overall (3-1 Southeastern Con ference) putting the Commodores a win off the 1941 squad that started 8-1. They came in with the highest ranking since 1947 playing before a second straight sellout crowd and snapped a five-game skid to the Tigers. CJ Heard set up the winning drive for V anderbilt by recovering a fumble by Jamal Roberts with 7:02 left. The finish didn't come without plenty of drama. Sedrick Alexander initially was ruled by officials to have fumbled at the 1 only to be overturned upon review with 1:49 left. Pavia finished the drive on the next play. No. 15 Missouri (6-2, 2-2) lost quarterback Beau Pribula early in the third quarter when he hurt his left ankle on fourth-and-goal.Trainers placed his ankle in an air cast and carted him off the field. Freshman Matt Zo llers, who threw a 6-yard TD pass to Jude James early in the fourth to tie it at 10, tried to tie it once more. He threw to Kevin Coleman Jr. as time expired and was ruled an incompletion. After review, officials said Coleman caught the ball short of the goal line. Makhilyn Young put Vandy up 10-3 lead late in the third with an 80-yard touchdown run. Missouri has dominated this series since joining the SEC in 2012. With two of top scoring offenses in the country, these teams scrapped to a 3-3 halftime t ie. Vanderbilt came in eighth-best, averaging 41.4 points a game, with Missouri 12th managing 39 a game. A kicking penalty on Missouri left guard Dominick Giudice erased a 20-yard run by Pribula down to the Vandy 1. Robert Meyer put Missouri up 3-0 with 5:11 left in the first half. Meyer missed a 29-yard field goal wide left in the third. Brock Taylor, who hasn't missed since a double overtime loss last season at Missouri, tied it up with a 38-yard field goal with 2:00 left in the first half. That came after Vanderbilt had first-and-goal at the Missouri 8 before a holding penalty and a false start. - Vanderbilt/AP College Football

| Vanderbilt is a top-10 team in college football for the first time since 1947 in an Associated Press poll that got a nearly complete makeover Sunday after a weekend when nine Top 25 teams lost. Ohio State was the only team to hold its spot, remaining No. 1 for an eighth straight week after shutting out Wisconsin 34-0 on the road. Beyond the Buckeyes, significant revision was required with four top-10 teams losing in the same week for a third time this season. Nine Top 25 losing teams were the most since Week 5 in 2022, when 10 went down, according to Sportradar. Four of the losses this week were to unranked opponents. The Buckeyes received 60 first-place votes, 10 more than a week ago. No. 2 Indiana pulled away from Michigan State, improved its program -record ranking by one spot and got the other six first-place votes.Texas A&M's one-rung promotion to No. 3 gives the Aggies their highest ranking since 1995. No. 4 Alabama has its highest ranking of the season and No. 5 Georgia returned to the to p five after a three-week absence. Oregon, Georgia Tech, Mississippi, Miami and Vanderbilt round out the top 10. The Ducks bounced back from their home loss to Indiana with a lopsided road win over Rutgers. Georgia Tech, which won at Duke, hadn't been in the top 10 since 2014 or ranked as high since 2009. Mississippi's loss to Georgia caused it to slip three spots, and Miami fell seven after losing to unranked Louisville. Vanderbilt rallied from its loss at Alabama two weeks ago with a 31-24 win over th en-No. 10 LSU. The Commodores earned a seven-spot promotion for their first win over the Tigers since 1990. At 6-1, Vandy is off to its best start since 1950 with two wins over ranked opponents. Texas Tech's first loss came at Arizona State and dropped t he Red Raiders seven spots to No. 14. LSU took the biggest fall, plunging 10 spots to No. 20 for its lowest ranking of the season. - AP College Football

Vanderbilt never trailed in what was the fourth meeting since 1947 with both schools ranked in the AP poll. Vanderbilt (6-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) beat LSU for the first time since 1990. The Tigers (5-2, 2-2) had some big plays with Garrett Nussmeier throwing for 225 yards and two TDs, including a 62-yarder to Zavion Thomas. Caden Durham also had a 51-yard run down to the Vandy 2 before the Commodores forced LSU to settle for one of four field-goal attempts. That wasn't enough against a Vanderbilt offense that came in seventh in the nation averaging 4 3.2 points a game. The Commodores scored the most points LSU has given up this season with a defense ranked fifth in the country allowing 11.8 points a game. Vanderbilt punted only twice, both times in the fourth quarter. LSU's best chance came after the first Vandy punt trailing 31-24 with 8:55 left. Zaylin Wood sacked Nussmeier on the first play. | The NCAA was back in court Tuesday fighting for the future of its eligibility rules through the case of Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, who is playing his fourth Division I season under a preliminary injunction. Attorney Rakesh Kilaru argued in court before a three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. District Court of Appeals that the NCAA believes its rules determining athlete eligibility do not violate the Sherman Act or other antitrust laws. Kilaru also said the association intends to enforce its rules. “I would venture we’ll be back in court in weeks or months,” Kilaru said. Any ruling by the appeals court won’t affect Pavia’s status this season. The NCAA granted a waiver after the injunction granting eligibility through the 2025-26 academic year for junior college athletes who would have exhausted eligibility during the 2024-25 academic year. A federal judge agreed last December that Pavia had a strong likelihood of success at trial against the NCAA rule limiting junior college players’ e ligibility as a restraint of trade under the Sherman Act.Pavia started playing at New Mexico Military Institute in 2020 (the NCAA did not count that season toward eligibility because of the pandemic.) He led the junior college to the 2021 national championship, then played at New Mexico State in 2022 and 2023 before transferring to Vanderbilt for the 2024 season. This is his fourth Division I season. Downton told judges the issue is that the NCAA’s rules are commercial in nature by limiting the labor market. The NCAA starts an athlete’s eligibility clock by counting even years played outside the association’s membership at junior colleges. After the hearing, Downton said they are hoping for a ruling on the case’s merits even as Pavia has NFL plans in 2026. Pavia’s lawsuit includes the possibility of a fifth year of eligibility within five consecutive years targeting the NCAA’s Redshirt and Five-Year rules — a season which Downton says his client isn’t interested in. - AP College Football

| Diego Pavia completed 18 of 25 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns, Jamezell Lassiter ran for a 44-yard score and Vanderbilt hammered No. 11 South Carolina 31-7 on the road Saturday to snap a 16-game losing streak to the Gamecocks. The Commodores (3- 0, 1-0 SEC) hadn't beat South Carolina since 2008, but dominated every facet of the game and forced four turnovers for their first 3-0 start since 2017. South Carolina quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate LaNorris Sellers was knocked out of the game in the second quarter after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from from Vanderbilt linebacker Langston Patterson, who was ejected for targeting.Sellers did not return, and finished 6 of 7 passing for 94 yards with one costly interception in the red zo ne with the score tied at 7. He was replaced by Luke Doty, who was largely ineffective failing to lead a scoring drive. The Commodores dominated the line of scrimmage and held nearly a 12-minute edge in time of possession. Pavia looked sharp from the sta rt, leading Vanderbilt on a nine-play, 73-yard drive to open the game, capped with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Sedrick Alexander that set the tone. Pavia later tossed a 5-yard TD pass to Junior Sherrill in the second quarter giving the Commodores a 14-7 lead at the break. - Vanderbilt/AP College Football
