NOV 7 NEC FOOTBALL PRIME PERFORMER: Billy Lucas, DUQ (RB, So.),...Lucas rushed the ball 30 times for 170 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Duquesne's overtime victory against NEC preseason favorite Sacred Heart. The sophomore running back was key in the Dukes' first, and only, drive in the extra session, toting the ball four times and catching a pass before crossing the goal line from eight yards out for the eventual game-winning score. - NEC Football

Billy Lucas ran for 170 yards and his 8-yard run in overtime lifted Duquesne to a 35-28 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday. The Dukes had the first possession of overtime and turned to Lucas immediately. He had four rushes and one pass reception among Duquesne's five plays. Sacred Heart's possession ended when the Dukes' Jayden Johnson and Jon Muehlbauer stopped Rob McCoy for a loss of 2 yards on fourth down from the 16-yard line.Neither team led by more than seven points in a matchup of teams that had been expected to contend for the Northeast Conference Championship. Sacred Heart (4-5, 2-3) was eliminated last week and Duquesne (3-6, 2-3) was never a factor in the league race. Joe Mischler completed 18 of 28 passes for 209 yards and two tou chdowns for Duquesne. In addition to his overtime score, Lucas had a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Marquez McCray was 20-of-26 passing for 213 yards with two touchdowns for Sacred Heart. Kenneth Womack had eight receptions for 123 yards with a touchdown. 2021 ALL-NORTHEAST CONFERENCE FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES): RB Billy Lucas, Duquesne, So.,...Lucas totaled 699 rushing yards on the season with six rushing touchdowns to pace the Dukes' ground game. His 560 yards in NEC play ranked second in the confer ence. The Erie, Pa. native posted a pair of 100-yard rushing performances on the season, highlighted by a career-high 137-yard effort with a pair of touchdowns in Duquesne's NEC road win at LIU. For that showing, Lucas earned his first career NEC Offensi ve Player of the Week award. He tallied 16 carries for 105 yards and a score in the Dukes' season finale at Wagner, as well.
