Iowa wide receiver Nico Ragaini plans to use his extra COVID-19 year of eligibility to stay at Iowa for a sixth season, he told reporters Tuesday. "If they're accepting me back here, then I'm most definitely going to come back here to be a Hawkeye for an other year," Ragaini said Tuesday.Ragaini had 32 catches for 365 yards and one touchdown in 10 games in the 2022 regular season. No other wide receiver had 20-plus catches. The return of Ragaini adds a veteran presence to what would have otherwise been a young 2023 wide receiver room. Brody Brecht, Diante Vines and Jacob Bostick also are expected to return. Three wide receivers - Alex Mota, Dayton Howard and Jarriett Buie - from the 2023 recruiting class have signed with the Hawkeyes. - The Gazet te

Iowa wide receiver Nico Ragaini knows the end of his Hawkeye career is near. He's been playing in Iowa City for four years and 34 games. He's the longest-serving veteran player in the program. He's already graduated. Now he only has about six months to t ry to cement his final game: Ensuring he gets a shot in the NFL. His plan is to go all in this fall. "This is my last football year, my fifth year," Ragaini said. "I got this summer and then the next couple games. So putting all my eggs in the basket an d going as hard as I could possibly go." There'll certainly be opportunity for Ragaini to have a large role in the offense this year. Due to transfer portal attrition, Iowa's wide receiver room is small in scholarship numbers with Ragaini as the lone sen ior.Charlie Jones' departure to Purdue allows for Ragaini to take a stronghold over the slot receiver position. But he didn't rule out lining up at other positions. A bit of the leap Ragaini wants to take is maintaining the swagger that he says al lows him to play at his best. Admittedly it's come and gone over the last year or so but with a fresh perspective this summer, he sees himself putting his best foot forward for the team in 2022. "I know my best player when I have this little swag about m yself," Ragaini said. "Sometimes I get myself out of it. So I just got to focus on myself and just get in that zone every single game. That's my goal this year." - Iowa City Press-Citizen

From late March through early May, Iowa's football team took part in spring practice in their first steps to return to normalcy in 2021. But they did it largely without one of their key players on offense. Wide receiver Nico Ragaini missed spring practic e due to injury. However, the redshirt junior is healthy now and prepared to take part in the next phase of summer conditioning starting on Tuesday. "I had a little bit of a back problem," Ragaini said. "I've been working out again, I'm cleared and a fu ll go, so I'm excited to get going again. "We start up 7-on-7 and all of that stuff (Wednesday) so we're all excited for that to happen; start throwing the football around and stuff so it should be exciting." Ragaini's presence will be a welcomed additio n to an Iowa receiving corps that lost it's top two wide receivers from last season in Brandon Smith and Ihmir Smith-Marsette.Ragaini isn't lacking in experience, with 24 career games and 65 receptions in his Hawkeye career. He has primarily worke d out of the slot, but Iowa coaches will likely lean on the veteran this fall. He's more than fine with that. "That's always the goal to be the No. 1, go-to guy," Ragaini said. "Just want to make (quarterback Spencer Petras) as connected to me as he poss ibly can and have all the trust in me to throw me the ball in a third down when we need to move the sticks. "I just have to keep working and building up the chemistry with Spencer and the other quarterbacks to be that go-to guy." - Iowa City Press-Citize n
