The Alachua, Fla. product had 7.5 tackles for a loss, while forcing two fumbles and recovering one. He blocked a field goal at Marist, which was returned for a touchdown for the first time in program history. Jacksonville University has decided to discontinue its football program. The school made the announcement Tuesday, saying it spent more than a year evaluating its athletic department and exploring ways to position itself for long-term growth and success. Athletic director Alex Ricker-Gilbert says "ultimately, one option stood out as the best path forward for Jacksonville athletics as a whole...It's clear the resources required to support our football program outweigh the benefits to the overall athletics department and the university."

The Dolphins have participated in the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League since 1998. They finished 3-9 this season, the fourth under coach Ian Shields. The school is offering full tuition scholarships to every football player who chooses to stay at Jacksonville University until graduation. The university also will honor the contracts of all football coaches and assist in their job searches. - AP College Football

2019 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE DEFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Ethan Hull, Jacksonville,...Hull, a redshirt freshman from Crestwood, Kentucky, posted 84 tackles (7.0 per game) and 7.5 tackles for loss in his first PFL campaign. He led all freshman defenders in tackles this season and was ninth among all PFL tacklers. Hull finished the eight-game league slate with 52 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss. NOV 18 PIONEER FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Garnett Nicolas, Jacksonville, Sophomore, Fullback, Florida, New York,...Nicolas broke off a 75-yard touchdown run for Jacksonville's first points in what became their first PFL win of 2019, 52-45 in double overtime at Marist, Saturday. He finished the day with 147 yards on 17 carries for an impressive 8.6 yards per run. After Marist scored on its opening drive, Jacksonville handed the ball to Nicolas on the first play of its ensuing drive and he rumbled 75 yards for the game-tying touchdown.
