  2022 ALL-CAA FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM: Marques DeShields, Rhode Island, RB, Sr.,...DeShields had one of the greatest individual seasons ever by a Rhode Island running back in his lone year in Kingston. Despite not taking over as the starter for the Rams until the fourth game of the season, he was second in CAA with 1,187 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns and 107.9 rushing yards per game. He had seven 100-yard games, including a 204-yard performance in the season finale against UAlbany. The graduate transfer was third in CAA with 14 total touchdowns, fourth in total points scored (84), fourth in all-purpose yards per game (126.3) and he tied the single-season rushing touchdown record, which was set in 1954 by Pat Abbruzzi. - Rhode Island Football

  Marques DeShields ran for 204 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, Kasim Hill threw two TD passes and Rhode Island beat Albany 35-21 Saturday in the season finale for both teams. Evan Stewart recovered a fumble in the end zone to make it 7-7 early in the second quarter. Hill hit Kahtero Summers for a 12-yard touchdown less than 3 minutes later and Dylan Brown blocked a short field-goal attempt that Oneil "Buzz" Robinson plucked out of the air and raced 96 yards for a TD that gave Rhode Island (7-4, 5-3 Colonial Athletic Association) a 21-7 lead at halftime. Hill threw a 7-yard TD pass to Darius Savedge to make it 28-14 in the third quarter and DeShields capped the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run with 4:31 to play. Reese Poffenbarger passed for 248 yards and two touchdowns - including a 66-yarder to Jackson Parker that opened the scoring - for Albany (3-8, 2-6). - Rhode Island/AP College Football

  Marques DeShields scored on a short run midway through the fourth quarter and went over 100 yards when Rhode Island ran out the clock to beat Maine 26-22 on Saturday. DeShields, who finished with 110 yards, capped a 75-yard drive. The defense then forced a three-and-out and with DeShields carrying six times, including a fourth-down conversion, the Rams ate up the final 5 minutes, 25 seconds of the game. Kasim Hill ran for two touchdowns and passed for one for Rhode Island (6-3, 4-2 Colonial Athletic Association), which had lost 14 straight to the Black Bears (2-7, 2-4) and 19 of the last 20. It was the 100th meeting between the two schools with Maine leading the series 62-35-3.

Maine led 13-7 at halftime as Cody Williams kicked a 46-yard field goal as time expired. Hill, who connected with Ed Lee for a 63-yard touchdown in the first half, had a pair of touchdown runs in the third quarter to put Rhode Island up 20-19. Williams connected from 39 yards to put the Black Bears on top 22-20 with 9:33 to play. Lee had eight catches for 190 yards.   OCT 24 CAA FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Marques DeShields, Gr., RB, Rhode Island (Clemonton, N.J./Overbrook),...DeShields accounted for 256 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns as Rhode Island outlasted Monmouth, 48-46, in a FCS-record seven overtimes. The grad student rushed for a career-best 161 yards and 2 TD's on 28 carries, and also caught three passes for 95 yards and 2 TD's. DeShields had a game-tying 77-yard TD reception with 3:23 to go in regulation and scored from a yard out in the first overtime. - CAA Football

  Marques DeShields had 234 yards of total offense with four touchdowns and Rhode Island made the only conversion in the seventh overtime, defeating Monmouth 48-46 on Saturday. Rhode Island stopped a 2-point pass in the seventh overtime, then Ed Lee caught a pass from Kasim Hill to win it for the Rams. DeShields had 161 yards rushing with two touchdowns and 73 yards receiving with two more touchdowns. His 73-yard catch-and-run tied it at 35 late in the fourth quarter and the score remained the same at the end of regulation. Hill completed 14 of 24 passes for 352 yards with three touchdowns but was intercepted three times. Lee had four receptions for 120 yards for the Rams (5-2, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association). Monmouth's Tony Muskett was 18-of-29 passing for 249 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.
