  10/27/22 - TE Landen KingrJr/2026, Utah, 6-5, 225 (DS#12 TE) + More +

Three weeks after requesting a redshirt and shutting things down for the remainder of the season, Auburn wide receiver Landen King announced his intent to enter the transfer portal. King took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to announce plans to enter the portal in December when the fall transfer window opens. The NCAA adopted new transfer portal windows in August, giving players 45 days to inform their school of intent to transfer after the sport's championship selections are made. For football this year, that window begins Dec. 4 after the College Football Playoff field is set.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder made the move from tight end to wide receiver in the offseason, and while he showed promise at the new position, he did not crack Auburn's season-opening two-deep depth chart. Still, King appeared in three of Auburn's first four games and made one catch for 24 yards during the team's loss to Penn State. After not seeing the field in Auburn's loss to LSU on Oct. 1, King opted to sit out the remainder of the season and requested a redshirt to preserve a year of eligibility, since he was within the four-game threshold for a redshirt. - Birmingham News

  10/07/22 - TE Landen KingrJr/2026, Utah, 6-5, 225 (DS#12 TE) + More +

Promising second-year wide receiver Landen King will sit out for the remainder of the season; a source confirmed to AL.Com after reports surfaced from WarEagleTV.com on Tuesday evening. King converted to tight end after catching five passes for 59 yards as a freshman tight end. A highlight play for King was his touchdown catch in overtime of last year's Iron Bowl. He came to Auburn as a 3-star tight-end recruit from Texas in the 2021 class. King played in three of Auburn's first five games. His one catch was a 24-yarder against Penn State. The 6-5 220-pound wide receiver didn't play in last week's LSU loss or the season-opening win against Mercer at Jordan-Hare. - Birmingham News

  08/13/22 - TE Landen KingrJr/2026, Utah, 6-5, 225 (DS#12 TE) + More +

Auburn tight end coach Brad Bedell knows that in the days of the transfer portal and NIL, he'll constantly have to recruit players on his team to keep them happy. Bedell might not have expected to lose Landen King to new wide receiver coach Ike Hilliard. The excellent news for Bedell and Hilliard is that the 6?5 220-pound sophomore could become a sensation for the Tigers in a position needing some depth. "I lost that coin flip," Bedell said with a smile during a session on Wednesday with reporters. "We love his work ethic and talent. He's a unique athlete." King caught five passes for 59 yards last season as a freshman tight end. His targets should go up now that he'll be expected to do less as a run blocker, which could benefit whoever wins Auburn's ongoing starting quarterback competition. His sole touchdown came in overtime of the Iron Bowl loss against Alabama at Jordan-Hare last season. "He adds something to the wide receiver room that we didn't have," receivers coach Ike Hilliard said. "He's extremely talented. We want to find ways to get him more involved. He'll have to learn more about the position as we go along here. But his size and skill set are going to help expand what we do on offense." - Birmingham News
