Branden Jennings, Central Florida, Player News

One key position group UCF coach gus Malzahn and his staff will focus on is linebacker. UCF added multiple transfers over the summer such as Branden Jennings (Kansas State) and Jason Johnson (Eastern Illinois). A pair of freshmen also joined: Seminole High's Kam Moore and Berkeley Prep's TJ Bullard. "These transfer linebackers, we think we got some really talented guys but we've got to find out some information in a hurry," Malzahn said. "We can't have growing pains on Saturdays." - Orlando Sentinel

Kansas State linebacker transfer Branden Jennings has received a waiver from the NCAA for immediate eligibility to play this season at UCF, a team spokesperson confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel on Friday night. Jennings, who began his college career at Maryland, was a 4-star linebacker out of Sandalwood in Jacksonville during the 2021 recruiting cycle. While athletes are allowed to transfer without sitting out a season thanks to the one-time transfer rule approved by the NCAA in April 2021, Jennings needed special clearance because he had changed schools once before.

After a freshman season in the Big Ten with the Terrapins in which Jennings totaled 23 tackles (17 solo), 1 tackle for loss and forced a fumble in eight games, he entered the NCAA transfer portal in November. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker spent the spring semester at Kansas State before entering the portal a second time in April. Last month following a visit to campus, Jennings committed to the Knights and enrolled for the summer as UCF became his third college in less than two years. - Orlando Sentinel

After going through the NCAA transfer portal process for a second time, Branden Jennings has finally settled on a destination. The linebacker announced he will be playing for head coach Gus Malzhan and the UCF Knights during the 2022 season. Jennings played last year with the Maryland Terrapins as a true freshman but left the program in favor of the Kansas State Wildcats. By the time mid-April came around, Jennings reentered his name in the transfer portal for the second time in the same cycle. Now, the Jacksonville, FL native will return to his home state of play for UCF. Jennings played in eight games last season with Maryland, having 23 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. He left the program after the year finished and went through spring practice with the Wildcats. - Orlando Sentinel and On3
