Reynard Ellis tackled Jalen Walker at the 1-yard line on the final play of the game to give UAB a 24-20 victory over Miami (OH) in the 2022 HomeTown Lenders Bahamas Bowl. Jermaine Brown Jr. scored the go-ahead touchdown for UAB on 4th-and-1 with 1:33 left in fourth quarter. Brown Jr. rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns overall. Trea Shropshire was the game's offensive MVP after tying the Bahamas Bowl record with 183 receiving yards. Michael Fairbanks II was the defensive MVP with seven tackles, 1.5 TFL, 0.5 sack and a blocked extra point. The win was UAB's third bowl victory in school history and the first time UAB has won back-to-back bowl games. It also marked UAB's 50th win since returning to action in 2017, which is the most of any team in Conference USA during that span. UAB finished the year at 7-6 overall is 50-26 since 2017. - UAB Football

OCT 10 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UAB WR Trea Shropshire had six catches for a career-high 193 yards and a touchdown in UAB's 41-14 victory over Middle Tennessee. All of his production came in the first half to help UAB build a 38-7 lead at the break. The 193 receiving yards were the eighth-most single game receiving yards in program history, and Shropshire is once again leading the nation in yards per reception at 28.3 yards per reception. - Conference USA Football

The Blazers return 16 starters, seven on offense and nine on defense, and the elevation of offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent to interim head coach should have an effect on a core of receivers that have the capability to evolve the UAB offense beyond a boom-or-bust mentality. Leading returning receiver Trea Shropshire entered and exited the transfer portal twice during the offseason, ultimately deciding to remain with UAB to finish off his college career, and multi-game starters Samario Rudolph and Tejhaun Palmer will see an increased role along with Ryan Davis and Fred Farrier II.

The good news is that Trea Shropshire emerged from his journey through the transfer portal, along with his nation-leading 26 yards per reception last season. The bad news is that the rest of the returning receiving corps combined for only 324 yards on 33 receptions, including a lone touchdown catch by Samario Rudolph. However, there is reason to be optimistic about the prospects of an enhanced passing game. Shropshire developed into a dangerous deep threat for the Blazers but only caught 27 passes during the season. His 703 yards led to a nation-leading 26.0 yards per catch, including 7 touchdowns, and has the opportunity to become the fourth UAB receiver (Derrick Ingram, Roddy White and Austin Watkins Jr.) to have more than 1,000 yards in a single season with an increase in usage. - Birmingham Post Herald

Trea Shropshire had five receptions for 180 yards - including a 71-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter - and Spencer Brown had 30 carries for 149 yards rushing to help UAB beat Marshall 22-13 on Friday night for the Blazers' second Conference USA championship in the last three years. Tyler Johnston III was 12-of-22 passing for 252 yards and two touchdowns for UAB (6-3). UAB became the first school to reach the championship game for the third straight season, all on the road. The Blazers, who resumed their football program in 2017 after it was cut following the 2014 season, won the title at Middle Tennessee in 2018 and lost at Florida Atlantic last year.

Grant Wells was 8-of-23 passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns for the Thundering Herd (7-2). UAB was clinging to a two-point lead and facing a third-and-6 from its own 29 when Johnston lofted a ball to Shropshire, who caught it near midfield and raced to the end zone to cap the scoring with 4:02 left. Marshall entered the game with the nation’s top scoring defense (11.4 points per game) and the second-best rushing defense (73 yards per game). The Thundering Herd gave up more than 20 points for the first time this season and allowed a season-high 216 yards rushing. - AP College Football
