Terrance Gipson, Southern Methodist, Player News

Then-backup SMU quarterback Terrance Gipson came into spell Shane Buechele on Saturday with the Mustangs up by 34 points in the fourth quarter. But on the third play of Gipson's night, he fumbled the ball away. And the next drive, Buechele was back in the game. This decision, Gipson told The Dallas Morning News was indicative of why he felt he needed to enter the transfer portal. Gipson officially put his name on Monday. "The head man just didn't have faith in my play," Gipson said of head coach Sonny Dykes. He said it was shown in the decision to take him out on Saturday, but it wasn't the only reason.

"That's not certainly like, just because he took me out," Gipson said regarding his decision to transfer. "If I am in a game, and I'm messing up, I would preach for them to take me out...It's not just because of that. It's been a long process and a long set of things that led up to that." Dykes declined through a team spokesman to respond to Gipson's comments, but he addressed the QB's transfer earlier in Monday afternoon during his weekly media availability. "I'm supportive of him and wish him the best," Dykes said. "And I hope he finds what he's looking for. He's a good football player and a good kid and I want to see him have a ton of success." - Dallas Morning News
