A family connection and a chance to make an impact in a new conference attracted Auburn transfer defensive lineman Jaren Handy to Indiana. Handy watched the Hoosiers weekly last season as his cousin, standout wide receiver Ty Fryfogle, caught pass after pass from quarterbacks Michael Penix Jr. and Jack Tuttle. "I felt like they should have won every game," Handy said of IU's 6-2 season. "The Ohio State game. I was really upset with them with the Ole Miss game because I really felt like they could have p ulled it out." The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Handy views himself as someone who can help make a difference defensively, which is why he transferred to IU. "I felt like I had a pretty good chance to play," Handy said. "The team was up and coming. I feel like we were one step away from, you know, winning the Big Ten and getting a championship at the end."Handy, a junior, played seven games at defensive end at Auburn last season, recording his first career sack in the Iron Bowl game against rival Alabama and a tackle for loss against Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl. A former top-100 national recruit from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Handy projects to bring more speed and athleticism to IU's defensive front. He's preparing to play the bull position in IU's 4 -2-5 defense and wants to get down to a playing weight of 255 to 260 pounds. "I'm going to be pass rushing, dropping back in coverage and moving around and stuff like that," Handy said. "I feel like it would be a great chance to showcase my talents and w hat I can do." - Herald Bulletin

Former Auburn defensive lineman Jaren Handy has a new home, and it's in the Big Ten. The former four-star prospect, who entered the transfer portal at the end of April following the conclusion of spring practices, announced on Wednesday that he has commi tted to Indiana. Once a top-100 prospect coming out of Hattiesburg, Miss., in the 2019 class, Handy appeared in 14 games during his first two seasons at Auburn. He totaled just 10 tackles, including three for a loss and one sack, during that time while a dding one pass breakup. Handy spent this spring at Auburn's newly listed edge defender spot in defensive coordinator Derek Mason's hybrid 3-4 scheme, though Mason said in March that the 6-foot-5, 252-pounder could also line up at defensive end and as a 4 -technique, providing the Tigers with versatility along the defensive front. - Birmingham News

Auburn is set to lose another one of the top players from its 2019 signing class. Defensive end Jaren Handy entered the NCAA transfer portal Friday morning, AL.com has learned. Handy, who didn't participate in the team's spring game earlier this month, p osted just three tackles and a sack as a sophomore last season. With Handy leaving, six of the top 11 ranked players from that 2019 Tigers class are no longer with the program, including three of the top five. - Birmingham News

It appears Auburn's defensive front is on the verge of taking another considerable hit this spring. According to multiple reports, Auburn Edge player Jaren Handy has entered the transfer portal. The news comes after the rising junior was one of several p layers who did not attend the Tigers' A-Day spring game on April 17. Handy's decision was first reported by AL.com's Matt Zenitz. A former four-star recruit from Hattiesburg, Miss., the 6-foot-5, 242-pound Handy has been in the mix for playing time durin g his two years at Auburn. Handy appeared in seven games in 2019 and in seven games in 2020. He finished his sophomore year with three tackles, including his first career sack in the Tigers' Iron Bowl showdown with Alabama.
