2022 ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM: RB - Calvin Tyler, Jr., Sr., Utah State,...Tyler, a 5-8, 210-pound running back from Beaumont, Texas (Silsbee HS/Oregon State), started all 12 games in his second year with the program. This season, he leads t he team with 1,043 rushing yards on 237 carries and seven touchdowns and became just the 16th player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season for the 19th time overall. Tyler's six 100-yard rushing games this year are the most by an A ggie since 2013 and tied for the second-most in the MW. Tyler began the season by rushing for a career-high 162 yards on a career-best 33 carries against UConn and scored a career-high three rushing touchdowns against San José State. Calvin Tyler Jr. raced 61 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with just under four minutes to play to lift Utah State to a 49-45 win over Air Force in the Mountain West Conference opener Saturday night. The Aggies, who had just one win a year ago, won their third straight game to open the season for the first time since 1978. Tyler carried 19 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns to lead Utah State while Logan Bonner completed 21 of 34 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Andrew Peasley threw three se cond-half touchdown passes, including a 72-yard bomb to Deven Thompkins with 9:51 to go to pull the Aggies within a touchdown of the Falcons, 45-40.Air Force took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, but Bonner engineered a 13-play, 71-yard drive cap ped by Tyler's first touchdown, then drove the Aggies 92 yards in 11 plays on their next series, giving them a 13-10 lead after hitting Brandon Bowling from six-yards out. Oregon State's crowded running back room became a little less so on Thursday. Redshirt junior Calvin Tyler Jr. announced on social media that he is entering the transfer portal. With the announcement, he gave a heartfelt goodbye to Oregon State's coaches and players. Tyler will leave Oregon State as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining. In 2020, he played in three games and ran for 45 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Although he was buried on the depth chart behind Jermar J efferson and B.J. Baylor for much of the season, Tyler delivered a massive mid-season contribution at Utah when Jefferson was absent due to COVID-19 protocols, and Baylor left the game with an injury. - Stillwater Press

Calvin Tyler Jr., a running back who has spent four years at Oregon State, is leaving the program and putting his name in the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Tyler has two years of eligibility remaining. This past season Tyler had 15 carries for 48 yards and two touchdowns. For Calvin Tyler Jr., transferring was never an option. Between the injuries and the talent ahead of him on the depth chart, you couldn't blame the Oregon State running back if he had gone searching for playing time elsewhere. Plenty of players in his sh oes would have caught the first flight out of town. "That never crossed my mind," Tyler said. "I've never been a guy to get up and run when things get hard." So he persevered. He trudged through a grueling rehab process to come back from the torn anterio r cruciate ligament he suffered in 2018 and reminded himself every single day of his purpose and his plan.Last Saturday, Tyler's self-belief paid off as he suddenly became Oregon State's No. 1 running back option during its game at Utah. He didn't let the opportunity pass him by and now he is hoping to rediscover the talent and physical running style that he flashed as a true freshman four years ago and continue his dream of reaching the NFL. "I feel like all my life, I've been patient and persev ering - going through things and overcoming them," Tyler said. "But my biggest thing: I'm a big religious guy. So I trust God.
