Highly regarded Arkansas State transfer receiver Corey Rucker will miss the rest of South Carolina's season with a foot injury. Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday that Rucker was scheduled for surgery. Beamer expects Rucker to make a full recovery and be back in time for the team's practice sessions next spring. The Gamecocks (5-3, 2-3 Southeastern Conference) head to Vanderbilt (3-5, 0-4) on Saturday night. Rucker is a 6-foot-1 junior who was expected to make a quick impact on the offense after catching 59 passes for 826 yards and nine touchdowns last season at Arkansas State. But he suffered the foot injury in August workouts and only got on the field in a 56-20 win over Charlotte in September when he caught his only pass of the season for a 52-yard touchdown. Rucker hurt himself again the next week against South Carolina State and has not played since. He joked on social media that while his first year with South Carolina was over, "at least it was a 100 percent rating." - AP College Football

The South Carolina Gamecocks substantially improved their pass-catcher room this year, importing Wells (James Madison), Corey Rucker (Arkansas State) and tight end Austin Stogner (Oklahoma). Rucker has missed the first two games with a foot injury but could play Saturday against No. 1 Georgia. They've also welcomed Brooks back to the team after he missed the last half of last year with a personal issue, and have hit running back MarShawn Lloyd eight times out of the backfield with five more passes going to fellow RB Juju McDowell. - The Post and Courier

2022 PRESEASON BILETNIKOFF AWARD WATCH LIST: Corey Rucker, South Carolina,...Rucker comes to South Carolina after spending two seasons at Arkansas State University. He appeared in 20 games over the past two seasons, collecting 75 receptions for 1,279 years (17.1 per catch) and 14 touchdowns for the Red Wolves. Rucker has four career 100-yard receiving games, including a career-best nine-catch, 310-yard, four touchdown performance against ULM in 2020. Rucker was an FWAA Freshman All-America honoree in 2021 as Arkansas State listed him as a frosh due to COVID-19 in 2020. He led the team and ranked fifth in the Sun Belt with 826 receiving yards on 59 catches last year. - South Carolina

Incoming South Carolina receiver Corey Rucker needs a new ice cream shop. It's not that he's trying to fight off the hellish midsummer Columbia heat, though that will come. He's not even really hankering for sweets. It's simply part of a routine that dates back to his time at Arkansas State and a tradition borne out of a relationship between quarterback and receiver he hopes will translate to South Carolina. "I was always a big fan of throwing at night," former Arkansas State quarterback Layne Hatcher told The State. "That's when I liked to throw and (Rucker) was always willing to come, and sometimes I just had to buy him some ice cream afterwards." "I didn't understand what those late nights in the indoor (facility) running routes and throwing meant (then)," Rucker added. "It comes to those situations where we've repped this so much and he's throwing the ball so much, we have so much connection and such a relationship, that it just happens. He just throws the ball and I know how it's gonna come." That the ex-Arkansas State star landed in the Southeastern Conference is a long time coming.

It wasn't that long ago that he and his coaches couldn't convince in-state schools to take a swing on him out of high school and he seemed destined for junior college. Three years later, Rucker profiles as an immediate impact piece this year and a receiver the Gamecocks can build around heading into 2022 and beyond. Had he stayed at Arkansas State, he was on pace to see his name scattered around the school's record books. After a coaching change from Anderson to former Tennessee coach Butch Jones, Rucker felt he had a chance to parlay his second season at ASU that included 59 receptions for 826 yards and nine touchdowns into the SEC chance he sought out of high school. - Rock Hill Herald

Grupe became A-State's all-time career scoring and field-goals made leader during the course of the season, while Rucker posted nine touchdown receptions that were the most in the Sun Belt among wide receivers. - Arkansas State Football

Corey Rucker acknowledged last week that he had jitters entering Arkansas State University's season opener. The sophomore was making just his second career start and is part of a group that understands the task it shares in replacing Jonathan Adams. You wouldn't have known the butterflies existed by the time Rucker hauled in his third touchdown pass of the night, blowing past a pair of University of Central Arkansas defensive backs before high-stepping up the ramp in the corner of Centennial Bank Stadium.

While Coach Butch Jones has not named a starting quarterback for ASU's Saturday showdown with Memphis, it could be Layne Hatcher partly because of his connection with Rucker. "As much as Layne and I have worked together in the offseason, he trusts me," Rucker said Tuesday during the Red Wolves' weekly media availability. "[Layne] knows we've got a lot of rhythm and timing, and he knows that if he throws me the ball, I can catch it." Rucker, who was named Sun Belt Conference offensive player of the week Monday, now has eight career touchdown receptions -- the last six of which have come from Hatcher during ASU's two most recent games. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Corey Rucker set the NCAA FBS record for a freshman with 310 yards receiving and caught four touchdown passes to help Arkansas State beat UL Monroe 48-15 on Saturday. Rucker, who caught nine passes, surpassed C.J. His four TD receptions tied a program record with Omar Bayless (2019) and Alfred Bentley (1959).

Rucker's longest TD catch was a 66-yard reception to make it 35-7 in the first minute of the third quarter.
