Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Jay Butterfield will continue his career in the Mountain West. Butterfield, who entered the transfer portal last month, announced his commitment to San Jose State on Saturday. The 6-foot-6, 216-pound Butterfield was Oregon's third-team quarterback each of the past two seasons. He completed a one-yard pass against Eastern Washington this season and went 2 of 3 for 22 yards against Stony Brook in 2021.

A four-star prospect out of Brentwood, Calif., Butterfield was ranked No. 147 overall and No. 5 among pro style quarterbacks in the 2020 recruiting class. He's the 12th former UO player to commit to or sign with a new team this offseason, joining Jackson LaDuke, Sean Dollars and Adrian Jackson Jr. (Nevada), Seven McGee (Jackson State), Justin Flowe (Arizona), Dawson Jaramillo (NC State), Moliki Matavao (UCLA), Bradyn Swinson (LSU), Brandon Buckner (MTSU), Byron Cardwell Jr. (Cal) and Bram Walden (Arizona State). - The Oregonian

Oregon quarterback Jay Butterfield, a 6-foot-6, 216-pound third-year freshman, announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Wednesday. "Thank you Oregon football for the many amazing experiences over the past three years," Butterfield wrote via Twitter. "I will be forever grateful for my time here in Eugene. With a college degree and three years of eligibility left, I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal. I am excited to get back to work and continue to follow my dreams. Much love Duck nation!" Butterfield was Oregon's third-team quarterback each of the past two seasons, playing against FCS opponents in both. He completed a one-yard pass against Eastern Washington this season and went 2 of 3 for 22 yards against Stony Brook in 2021. - The Oregonian
