  08/05/22 - QB Beau AllenrSr/2025, Kentucky, 6-2, 215 (DS#999 QB) + More +

If his father is correct, quarterback Beau Allen's unexpected decision last week to transfer from the Kentucky football program may have taken root during UK's 31-17 drubbing at Mississippi State last Oct 30. Before Mike Leach left the head coaching job at Washington State for the same position at MSU, he and his staff put a full-court recruiting press on Allen. So in Starkville last season, Allen was greeted by many of the support-staff members who had ardently wooed him for Washington State.

Once the game started, the Kentucky offense laid a dinosaur egg, with starting quarterback Will Levis throwing three interceptions. "Obviously, we didn't play very well, and Beau doesn't get to see the field at all," Bill Allen says. "I don't know that that set really well with him, necessarily." On Tuesday, Tarleton State, a Football Championship Subdivision program in Stephenville, Texas, announced that Beau Allen had joined its team. Having waited to transfer until well after the May 1 cutoff for immediate eligibility at another FBS school in 2022, moving down a division was the clearest path Beau Allen had to playing immediately this fall. According to Bill Allen, a mid-1980s-era UK QB himself, Beau Allen's feeling that he needed to be playing in games to develop motivated the former Lexington Catholic High School star to take action. "He wants to play," Bill Allen said. "He couldn't just stand there anymore, in my opinion." - Herald Leader

One of the top prospects in the country has picked Tarleton as his landing spot. Tarleton Football announced Tuesday they have added quarterback Beau Allen. Allen transfers to Tarleton from Kentucky, where he spent the last two years. He played in five games with the SEC's Wildcats, completing 11-of-19 (.579) passes for 132 yards, scoring his first touchdown on the ground against New Mexico State. Last year as a redshirt freshman and No. 2 on the depth chart, Allen played against Louisville, New Mexico State and Louisiana-Monroe, after going against Alabama and Vanderbilt as a true freshman in 2020.

Allen was heavily recruited out of Lexington Catholic High School, named a four-star prospect by ESPN and Rivals. He was ranked as high as the No. 3 QB in Kentucky, and a top-15 QB across the nation overall. Allen turned down offers from Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Maryland, Washington State, West Virginia, Marshall and Duke, among others, to attend Kentucky. He also had offers from several prominent schools ahead of his commitment to Tarleton this past week. - Tarleton Football

  07/30/22 - QB Beau AllenrSr/2025, Kentucky, 6-2, 215 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Beau Allen announced Wednesday via his Twitter feed that he is entering the transfer portal. One of the most prolific passing quarterbacks in Lexington high school football history, Allen will leave UK having thrown only 19 passes in game-action as a Wildcat. "After a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided for the best interest of my football career, I will enter the transfer portal to have an opportunity to play this upcoming season," Allen wrote. "I am forever a Wildcat and I am very excited for the future." The son of 1980s-era UK QB Bill Allen, Beau Allen threw for 11,439 yards and 127 touchdowns in his career at Lexington Catholic. One of the most-decorated quarterbacks produced in the commonwealth in the past decade, Allen chose UK over scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Washington State and West Virginia, among others. A four-star recruit by Rivals.com, Allen was seen as UK's quarterback of the future when he signed with Kentucky in its recruiting class of 2020. - Herald Leader

  09/23/20 - QB Beau AllenrSr/2025, Kentucky, 6-2, 215 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Freshman Beau Allen opens Kentucky football's first game week as the Wildcats' No. 2 quarterback. Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said the school is still waiting to learn the status of Auburn transfer Joey Gatewood, who was widely assumed to be the team's backup if eligible. Gatewood has applied for a transfer waiver to allow him to play right away instead of sitting out the normal year required by NCAA rules. "There's no agreement, no gentleman's agreement," Stoops said, refuting reports that Kentucky and Auburn had agreed to hold Gatewood out against his former team in exchange for him being eligible to play the rest of the season. "I'm waiting to hear back from the league because it's SEC to SEC school. We're waiting to hear back from them."

Stoops declined to specify if Allen had won the backup job or was only listed as the No. 2 quarterback because Gatewood's status for the opener is uncertain. Allen, the former four-star recruit and Lexington Catholic star, has received consistent praise from UK coaches throughout preseason practice. He graduated from Lexington Catholic a semester early to enroll at UK in the spring, enabling him to participate in UK's coronavirus-shortened spring practice. "Beau is really doing a good job," Stoops said on a recent episode of his radio show. "He makes some mistakes, but he's one of those unflappable guys. Very calm. He's got a great presence about him. Anticipates things really well. Throws the ball very efficiently. Very high on Beau." - Courier Journal
