There are three certainties to the UAB football program. A Spanish Fort alum on every roster, a productive running game and a brutal and domineering defense. It's time we focus on the latter. The Blazers return 16 total starters, nine on defense, but hav e a lack of experience at the defensive line position with departures from three multi-game starters. It'll be imperative for the unit to come together quickly to allow UAB's linebackers to wreak havoc in its unique 3-4 scheme.Fish McWilliams star ted only two games last season but is battle-tested throughout his time on the Southside. A trio of upperclassmen returns with some playing experience but the Blazers also need contributions from a crop of redshirt freshmen and offseason transfers. McWil liams is the lone starter returning on a defensive line that lost three key members to graduation. He was granted a COVID waiver, reclassified as a redshirt junior, and steps into a true leadership role as the longest-tenured member in the position.
