Marshall's football program has lost another key player to the NFL Draft. On Sunday afternoon, junior defensive end Darius Hodge took to social media to announce his intentions to enter the 2021 NFL Draft. Hodge's left a message to those close to him below a post that said, "I'm not coming home till I can build my own!!" The junior from Wake Forest, N.C., came to Marshall as a linebacker, but made the transition to defensive end and became one of Conference USA's top pass-rushers. It was expected that he would be a key returnee for the Herd in 2021, but on Sunday, that tune changed as he became Marshall's fourth player to declare for next year's draft. In 2020, Hodge finished third on Marshall’s team in tackles with 63 while leading the team in tackles for loss (9.0) and sacks (6.5). - Herald-Dispatch

OCT 14/WEEK 7 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Marshall senior DL Darius Hodge tied a school record with 4.5 sacks to go with his seven tackles in Marshall's 31-17 home win over Old Dominion. The 26 yards lost on those sacks tied for third-most in school history. The Thundering Herd racked up a season-high eight sacks as a team, tied for the second-most in school annals. Hodge's 4.5 sacks tied a school record set by Cecil Fletcher on Sept. 13, 1986 at Ohio. The Wake Forest, North Carolina, native also tied two others for the third-most sacks in Conference USA history, equaling the 4.5 sacks by Louisiana Tech's Houston Bates against Illinois in 2014, and FAU's Martin Wright against FIU in 2013.. Hodge's sack total is also the most by a Marshall player in Joan C. Edwards Stadium history. - Conference USA Football
