Josh Love, San Jose State, Player News

  12/09/19 - QB Josh LoverSr/2020, San Jose State, 6-0, 203 (DS#19 QB) + More +

2019 ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST FIRST TEAM (COACHES): QB - Josh Love, Sr., San Jose State,...Love completed 60.9 percent of his passes with only eight interceptions for 3,923 yards and 22 touchdowns as San Jose State recorded a 5-7 win-loss record, four more wins than in 2018. All of Love's season totals were personal bests for the one-time walk-on from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly High. He became only the third quarterback in conference history to throw for 400 or more yards five games in a season. His six career 400-yard passing games ranks second on the all-time Mountain West list behind Oakland Raiders and Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr, who had 11 in two seasons.

Love's 3,923 passing yards is #6 on the Mountain West's single-season list and ranks third nationally this season in games played through November 30. He also is sixth nationally in total offense at 319.6 yards per game. The numbers complement a year in which the co-captain led the Spartans to game-winning touchdown drives with less than 3:00 remaining in the fourth quarter of 75 yards at Arkansas for San Jose State's first win in school history against a Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent and 83 yards vs. Fresno State to conclude the season. - San Jose State Football

DeJon Packer had 128 total yards, including a 10-yard touchdown run with 2:11 left, and San Jose State rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat Fresno State 17-16 on Saturday night and snap a three-game skid. Packer had 93 yards rushing and added four receptions for 35 yards. Josh Love was 23-of-34 passing for 290 yards and Tre Walker had 132 yards receiving on eight receptions for San Jose State (5-7, 2-6 Mountain West Conference). Trailing 16-10 and facing third-and-9 from their own 33 with 2:47 left in the game, the Spartans offense came to life. Love hit Tre Walker for a 29-yard gain before Packer ripped off back-to-back runs of 28 and 10 yards to give San Jose State its first lead of the game with 2:11 remaining. The Bulldogs (4-8, 2-6) scored on their first two drives to take a 14-0 lead after a 5-yard touchdown run by Ronnie Rivers with 5:08 left in the first quarter and Justin Rice sacked SJSU's Josh Love in the end zone to make it 16-3 with 5:27 left in the first half. Rivers finished with a season-high 177 yards rushing for Fresno State. The Bulldogs lost four in a row and five of six to end their season. - San Jose State/AP College Football

Jet lag never felt so good for the San Jose State Spartans. Josh Love passed for 314 yards and three touchdowns, Matt Mercurio kicked four field goals, and San Jose State stunned Army 34-29 on Saturday, handing the Black Knights (3-5) their second straight loss at Michie Stadium and fourth straight overall. "This is an incredible win for our team," Spartans coach Brent Brennan said. "Coming on the road like this with such long travel for an early game, we woke our kids up at 4 a.m. West Coast time for pregame meal and to get everyone started and they handled it incredibly well. We are really excited about this and we are going to enjoy it."

San Jose State (4-4) was coming off a 27-17 homecoming loss to San Diego State, its second straight setback, but the Spartans managed to do something they haven't done in four years -- win twice in a season on the road. San Jose State scored on all five of its first-half possessions, the first time that's happened this season, and when the Spartans were stopped Mercurio made sure they came away with points, hitting from 30, 23, 38 and 28 yards, one of them after Army lost a fumble. The game featured just two punts, one by each team. - San Jose State/AP College Football
