  07/31/21 - WR Kwamie Lassiter IIrSr/2022, Kansas, 5-11, 179 (DS#62 WR) + More +

Two of the Kansas football team's key veteran leaders, junior safety Kenny Logan Jr. and super-senior receiver Kwamie Lassiter II landed on separate preseason watch lists on Thursday. The Louisville Sports Commission announced Logan is one of the 57 players in the running for this year's Paul Hornung Award, presented to college football's most versatile player. Meanwhile, Lassiter's name appeared on the newly published watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, presented to the FBS player who best combines community service with leadership achievement on and off the field. The leading receiver for KU's offense in 2020, Lassiter's production (43 receptions, 458 receiving yards and two touchdowns) wasn't what got him on the Wuerffel watch list, along with 92 other candidates nationwide. - Lawrence Journal World

One player on each side of the ball will represent the Kansas football program at the Big 12's annual football media days event next week in Arlington, Texas. The conference announced Thursday the representatives for all 10 schools, a list that included wide receiver Kwamie Lassiter II and safety Kenny Logan Jr. for KU. They will have the honors of joining head coach Lance Leipold at AT&T; Stadium, where they will pose for photos and answer questions about the upcoming season.

Kansas is slated to participate on the second day of the two-day event. Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech will all join KU on July 15. The first day, which will take place on July 14, features Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma, TCU and West Virginia. Lassiter, a senior, figures to be an important part of the offense as the leader of an inexperienced wide receiver unit. Last fall, Lassiter led KU with 43 receptions for 458 yards on his way to being named All-Big 12 honorable mention. He snagged two touchdown receptions and averaged 10.7 yards per catch. - Lawrence Journal World

Lance Leipold's first season leading the Kansas football program will now include back-to-back Friday night dates to open the 2021 campaign. KU announced Thursday that both the home opener versus South Dakota and the Jayhawks' Week 2 road game at Coastal Carolina have been moved up a day, slightly altering the previously released schedule. Leipold's KU debut will come Sept. 3 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Jayhawks' third meeting with Coastal Carolina in three years will be on Sept. 10, and air on one of ESPN's networks, with the kickoff time still to be determined. "It's going to be a thrill to open up the season under the lights of Memorial Stadium," Leipold stated in a KU release. "Since I've gotten here, the reception and reaction of our fan base has been nothing short of remarkable. Our fans have shown how eager they are to support this program, and I can't wait for our team to take the field for the first time together on that Friday night against the University of South Dakota." - Lawrence Journal World

  02/04/21 - WR Kwamie Lassiter IIrSr/2022, Kansas, 5-11, 179 (DS#62 WR) + More +

Although a number of seniors from the Kansas football program's 2020 roster decided to transfer elsewhere, the Jayhawks are set to bring back eight players for an extra senior year. KU coach Les Miles confirmed with the Journal-World on Thursday that offensive linemen Chris Hughes, Malik Clark and Adagio Lopeti, receiver Kwamie Lassiter II, linebacker Kyron Johnson, safeties Ricky Thomas and Nate Betts and nose tackle Sam Burt decided to take advantage of the NCAA's blanket waiver and play one more season with the Jayhawks. "There's going to be a key group of leaders," Miles said of having the veterans returning for the 2021 season. While KU lost two of its most talented receivers, Andrew Parchment and Stephon Robinson Jr, to the transfer portal, the offense will be able to bring back Lassiter, the former KU walk-on who ended up leading the team in receiving in 2020. - Lawrence Journal World
