James Graham, Georgia Southern, Player News

There is news about Georgia Southern football player James Graham, and it's not about his place on the depth chart at quarterback. In fact, the Georgia Tech transfer is now listed at wide receiver on the Eagles' roster on the Georgia Southern Athletics website. The redshirt junior (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) was a starter at QB for the Yellow Jackets and previously starred at Fitzgerald High School. Graham was expected to compete for the starting job at QB with redshirt junior Justin Tomlin, who filled in ably the past two seasons when four-year starter Shai Werts was unavailable. Graham practiced with the Eagles at the start of the spring but then was absent due to personal issues, according to head coach Chad Lunsford, and missed all of the team's scrimmages and the spring game. - Savannah Morning News

Georgia Tech quarterback James Graham entered the transfer portal, a team spokesman confirmed Thursday morning. Graham, a sophomore, started eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2019, but was displaced by freshman quarterback Jeff Sims this season. Graham played in one game this season, coming in for Sims in the second half of the loss to Boston College. Graham played four possessions and led the Jackets on a 55-yard touchdown drive.

In a statement posted from his Twitter account, Graham wrote that he has "fought some internal battles for quite a while," but that he refused to let them be a setback. "I told my mom that I would never give up on my dreams no matter what the situation was," he wrote. He called his decision to leave Tech "not the end but the beginning of a new chapter." Graham started the final eight games of the 2019 season, showing potential and playmaking ability but also inconsistency. The four-star prospect from Fitzgerald High finished the season completing 87 of 193 passes (45.1%) for 1,164 yards with 12 touchdown and seven interceptions. - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Only five days after being removed from Georgia Tech's low point of the season, James Graham showed his dual-threat potential as the new leader of a revamped offense. Graham threw three touchdown passes, including two to Ahmarean Brown, and Georgia Tech stopped a potential tying 2-point play with about five minutes remaining to beat North Carolina State 28-26 on Thursday night. Graham also ran for 129 yards with a touchdown as Georgia Tech (3-8, 2-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) snapped a three-game losing streak that included a 45-0 loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday. Graham, who was pulled from the lopsided loss to the Hokies, wasn't leaving the win over the Wolfpack. "Especially after last week he had something to prove," said wide receiver Malachi Carter, who had two catches for 74 yards. "He just went out there and did his thing." N.C. State (4-7, 1-6) suffered its fifth straight loss. Graham helped the Yellow Jackets gain 395 yards -- a dramatic improvement from their 134 yards in the loss to Virginia Tech. - AP College Football
