  , , Player News

Louisville linebacker Thurman Geathers has opted out of the 2020 season with four games left on the schedule. Geathers, an outside linebacker that has been a rotation player and pass rusher for the Cardinals, showed promise in some of his appearances. Chris Person, of Rivals.com, first reported the news. The Georgia native played in six games and had four tackles, and he registered half a sack against Notre Dame. He did not play against Virginia Tech, even with Louisville missing eight players on the defensive side because of COVID-19 related issues.

"He's had some ups and downs in his time here, a lot of frustrations. He didn't play a whole lot on Saturday and really decided he wanted to pack it up," coach Scott Satterfield said. "It's unfortunate for him but he wants to move in another direction. Like I told our guys we want guys that want to be here. You have to be 100% committed. This is not a sport where you can be half in and half out, you have to be 100% committed to do everything you are asked to do." Geathers arrived at Louisville as a three-star prospect in 2018 and was ranked as the No. 73 defensive end nationally by ESPN and the No. 67 player in Georgia by 247Sports. - Courier Journal
