  03/27/21 - DE *Jayson OwehrSo/2021, Penn State, 6-5, 257 (DS#2 DE) + More +

Oweh, a defensive end at Penn State, could potentially play elsewhere in the NFL. He has the length and athleticism - he also reached 39.5 inches in the vertical jump Thursday - to play either outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense or defensive end in a 4-3 defense. Regardless of his position, he'll likely be asked to be an edge rusher who spends his time in the league chasing down quarterbacks. Critics will point to his lack of sacks - none in the 2020 season - as reason for concern about his ability to get to the quarterback at the next level, but Oweh isn't concerned about the criticism or what he can do on the football field. "If you really understand what is going and you watch film, you don't just look at the box score, you understand that that's not even who I am," Oweh said. "If you go off (the game against) Indiana, that game, I would have had five sacks that game if I wasn't just a split second off...My best years in football are ahead of me." - Centre Times

2020 ALL-BIG TEN FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DL Jayson Oweh, Penn State,...Oweh is averaging 5.4 tackles per game, which ranks eighth nationally among defensive linemen who have played at least seven games. His 38 tackles through the first seven games were the most by a Penn State defensive lineman since Daquan Jones and Austin Johnson had 40 tackles in 2013 and 2015, respectively. Oweh posted a career-high 10 tackles against Maryland. Oweh recorded two tackles for loss against the Terrapins and 1.5 tackles for loss in each game against Nebraska and Iowa. - Penn State Football

  07/06/20 - DE *Jayson OwehrSo/2021, Penn State, 6-5, 257 (DS#2 DE) + More +

The Nittany Lions will be led by one of their most veteran players along the defensive front and one of their highest-upside contributors. Toney started all 13 games last season at defensive end after playing in 25 games in the previous two seasons. Oweh has appeared in 17 games in his first two years on campus and made one start in that time. Toney is more secure in his role as a starter, but it's Oweh who has a chance to burst onto the scene this season. The 6-foot-5, 257-pound defensive end flashed his upside as an edge rusher throughout the 2019 season and might be the best athlete on the team. Oweh was clocked at 4.33 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a freakish time for almost any position, but especially astonishing for a defensive end.

His explosion doesn't just show up in workouts either. Oweh is consistently one of the best athletes on the field whenever he lines up and uses it to dominate off the edge. His elite speed translates onto the field and allows him to beat offensive tackles by blowing past them. His elite first step puts them at an extreme disadvantage and his speed and athleticism can take over from there. He contorts his body around the edge to bend past tackles and get to the quarterback. Oweh has added strength in his first three years on campus that has made him more than a one-dimensional pass rusher. - Centre Times
