Bryant Koback has high hopes for his 2021 season. Rockets coach Jason Candle described the junior running back's previous three seasons as "a very good career" and him as a "tremendous player." Koback, a Springfield High School alum, was named to his third straight Doak Walker Award watch list, a recognition that is awarded to the top running back in college football. He wrapped up his 2020 season, a schedule that was abbreviated to six games within the Mid-American Conference, fourth in the league in yards (522 yards) and second amongst the Rockets in receptions (24). Last year's performance helped him earn preseason All-MAC second team selections from Phil Steele and Athlon Sports.

In the offseason, Koback spent time improving on all aspects of his game. "It was just working on getting to the second level, just being able to break free, continue to go down the field, and just continue to improve my overall game," Koback said. "No matter how good I may think I am at something, I still need to improve in many areas of my game. That's just my main focus, is to just come in here and try to get a little bit better at something every single day. Hopefully at the end of the year, everything falls into place." Throughout his Rockets career, Koback has rushed for 2,626 yards and 30 touchdowns. He ranks ninth in program history in rushing yards and is 374 from becoming the eighth player to rush for at least 3,000 in a career. - Toledo Blade

Thirteen of Toledo's 19 seniors from 2020 are returning for a final season, including all four senior captains (Anderson, Bailey Flint, Bryce Harris, and Samuel Womack) and junior captain Bryant Koback, who will complete his fourth year of college in May and could have moved on. "It never even crossed my mind," Koback said. "I knew I wanted to come back. I just want to play football for as long as it's guaranteed. It's something I love to do and something I want to continue to do. With everything going on, you look at last year and people that left in 2019, and there were question marks [about their future]." Twelve of the 13 are starters on offense, defense, or special teams. All 13 are on the two-deep depth chart. The Rockets return an unheard-of 22 starters - all 11 on offense and defense. Not to be outdone, the kicker, punter, long snapper, and kick and punt returners are also back. - Toledo Blade

While the quarterback battle may be the story of the University of Toledo's offense going into the 2020 season, the running back room returns one of the best one-two punches in the Mid-American Conference. Junior Bryant Koback and Senior Shakif Seymour each are back this season for the Rockets. Ever since Koback transferred to Toledo from Kentucky ahead of the 2018 season, the duo has not only formed a strong bond, but has developed a healthy competition. "It's been a great process to come in and compete with him every single day, and actually it helps both of us become better," Koback said. "I'm very thankful and grateful for that every single day we come in. It's also healthy competition, which is always a great thing to have. We're able to maximize our potential while competing against each other. I think we have a great one-two punch. We are both rooting for each other and both want to have a successful season." Koback's stats back up the fact the Springfield grad thrives on this competition. Seymour has accumulated 2,008 career yards and 22 touchdowns during his career. Koback meanwhile was one of the stars of Toledo's 2019 season, rushing for 1,187 yards (fourth in the MAC) and averaging 6.1 yards per carry (third in the MAC). With 2,104 career yards, he and Seymour are two of 18 players to crack 2,000 career rushing yards. - Toledo Blade
