The Gamecocks have the depth and versatility to run two tight-end sets this season. Senior Nick Muse is the unquestioned No. 1 tight end and could be poised for a big season after passing up a chance at the NFL and return to USC. The William & Mary trans fer was the team's second-leading receiver this past season with 30 catches for 425 yards and a touchdown. He said he never got back to where he wanted to be after tearing his ACL late in the 2019 campaign, so he decided to come back one more year and im prove his draft stock."Nick can do everything and he is really intent on improving his run blocking because that is something he knows he needs to do on the next level," USC tight ends coach Erik Kimrey said. "But he also can go out and split out for you. He does an outstanding job of creating space with his body and his route running. "He is the leader in our tight end room and on our team, so there is not much he doesn't bring to the table. Alright, so maybe he isn't quite ready to take on Floyd Mayweather. But if Mayweather wants to get Nick Muse in the boxing ring for a few rounds, Muse figures he could at least get a few good jabs in. "I don't think I'd be very good at it as a career," S outh Carolina's fifth-year tight end deadpanned. "I'd like to play football as long as possible. Nah, it's something I do for good cardio. My brother got me into it." Muse recently visited older brother Tanner Muse, a Clemson alum who now plays linebacke r for the Raiders, in Las Vegas. While there, he met one of the trainers for heavyweight bruiser Tyson Fury."He showed me a lot of great stuff that some of the big-time guys are doing. It got me to understand how hard that was and not to take it f or granted," Muse said. "I bought a couple pairs of legit boxing gloves, got some wraps and a 75-pound aqua bag." He posted a video to Twitter of himself working the standard heavy bag and then the aqua bag (a round water-filled sack much bigger than a s tandard punching bag) in the basement of his North Carolina home. The Muse family already had a well-equipped weight room down there, something Muse got used to during last summer's COVID-19 quarantine, so adding some boxing equipment didn't take up too much space. - The Post and Courier

Nick Muse has aspirations of joining his brother Tanner and playing in the NFL. But those dreams could wait a year, as the Gamecock tight end decided to come back for his "super senior" season at South Carolina - the NCAA granted all players an extra yea r of eligibility because of COVID-19, and so Muse had the option to return. Muse talked about that decision publicly for the first time Friday as USC offensive players met with the media. "I don't think I had the year that I wished to have last year," Mu se said. "I started practicing seven months out of rehab when it is usually a nine or twelve months thing. I was limpy...I just wasn't myself." Muse, who transferred to USC from William & Mary back in 2019, was the team's second-leading receiver this pas t season with 30 catches for 425 yards and a touchdown. Nothing's official yet, but South Carolina football's new tight ends coach certainly seems confident that the Gamecocks' top player at the position will return for another season. Erik Kimrey has been a part of new head coach Shane Beamer's staff for onl y a couple of days, but he's taken the time to speak with senior Nick Muse, who led the tight end unit in 2020 with 30 catches, 425 yards and a touchdown. And from that conversation, Kimrey said, he got a positive indication that Muse will be back. "Had a great conversation, and I feel confident that he's gonna be back next year," Kimrey said. "He's still working through some things in terms of talking to some people, but we had a wonderful conversation. He seems like a great guy and I look forward to h im coming back and being a great leader on this team. We need him." - Rock Hill Herald

Tight end Nick Muse caught his first target, dropped the second and caught the next four. Included was the day's key play, where after Vanderbilt notched its only TD to make it 17-7 in the third, Muse caught a 29-yard catch-and-run on third-and-6. He's h ad some drops, big drops this year, but the ability of the man is to keep getting open, and keep believing he'll catch the next one. - Rock Hill Herald

South Carolina transfer tight end Nick Muse's eligibility waiver was granted by the NCAA on Friday, clearing him to play this season for the Gamecocks. Muse's father Tweeted out the news on social media and the school confirmed Muse's status. Muse is a 6 -foot-3, 232-pound junior who played the past two seasons at William & Mary. He picked the Gamecocks over LSU and other schools when he decided to leave the Tribe.Muse is the brother of Clemson starting safety Tanner Muse. The Gamecocks were hopin g the NCAA would approve Muse playing right away because it has lost a pair of experienced tight ends in the past month. When transfer tight end Nick Muse picked South Carolina football as his transfer destination, he added a little something to the family dynamic. Siblings on opposite sides of one of college football's fiercest rivalries. Nick's brother Tanner is an All-A CC safety for Clemson. He's entering his fifth year on campus and his third year starting.
