  01/02/21 - DT Neil Farrell Jr.rSr/2022, LSU, 6-4, 319 (DS#44 DT) + More +

LSU senior defensive tackle Neil Farrell announced late Thursday night that he will return for another year of eligibility. Farrell, who played in all 10 games in 2020, was LSU's 11th leading tackler with 25 tackles, 2½ tackles for loss and a sack. The Mobile, Alabama, native started in six games and is a major return for LSU and its defensive line. All seniors are eligible to return for an extra year of eligibility, due to an NCAA waiver that was passed for seniors due to the coronavirus pandemic, and LSU coach Ed Orgeron has said that he is actively re-recruiting players to return for another season. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  09/23/20 - DT Neil Farrell Jr.rSr/2022, LSU, 6-4, 319 (DS#44 DT) + More +

Neil Farrell will have to practice exceptionally this week to break into the defensive tackle rotation for LSU's season-opener against Mississippi State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Tiger Stadium. Orgeron said the senior, listed at 6-foot-4, 319-pounds, "still has some conditioning to do" since Farrell returned to the team last week after initially opting out due to coronavirus concerns. Before Farrell opted out, he was expected to challenge for a starting spot. He led the defensive line with 46 tackles in 2019, adding seven tackles for loss and three sacks. "Obviously, we all know Neil can play," Orgeron said. "How fast he returns and how fast he works his way up the depth chart is basically up to him. He's coming back with a great attitude. Wants to work. If Neil is in shape, and he's working, Neil can possibly be a starter for us. He's that good. But I can see him starting to get some game reps. I don't know if he's gonna be ready." - Baton Rouge Advocate

  09/15/20 - DT Neil Farrell Jr.rSr/2022, LSU, 6-4, 319 (DS#44 DT) + More +

LSU defensive lineman Neil Farrell, the first Tiger to choose to sit out the season because of the coronavirus pandemic, is back at the LSU facilities and plans on opting back into the season, coach Ed Orgeron told The Advocate. The news was first reported by The Athletic. Defensive coordinator Bo Pelini's four-man front is still missing its biggest piece, defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin, who opted out at the end of August. Orgeron said Shelvin is considering returning to the team, but it's uncertain whether the 6-foot-3, 346-pound junior will follow Farrell in his return back to the team. Farrell first announced his decision to leave the program on Twitter in early August. He said the virus had hit his family hard and that his grandmother was battling COVID-19 in the hospital. Farrell provided an update on Twitter on Thursday that said, "My grandmother is getting better each and every day & I thank God for that...I miss football." - Baton Rouge Advocate
