Earlier this week, the NFL announced that it would hold a "fully virtual" 2020 NFL draft, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Late Thursday night, NFL.com released a list of players who will participate in those online proceedings come April 23-25, and among them are Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson and Utah State quarterback Jordan Love. Both Johnson and Love have been mentioned as potential first-round picks in the buildup to the draft, and they will join 56 additional prospects who are expected to participate in the virtual event.

Love is one of seven quarterbacks, including LSU's Joe Burrow, Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Oregon's Justin Herbert, expected to be involved. Johnson, meanwhile, is one of nine defensive backs, including LSU's Grant Delpit, Florida's CJ Henderson and Ohio State's Jeffrey Okudah. The Pac-12 Conference will be represented by Herbert, Johnson, USC's Austin Jackson (OT), Arizona State's Brandon Aiyuk (WR), Washington's Jacob Eason (QB) and Colorado's Laviska Shenault (WR). - Deseret News

Jaylon Johnson was all set to be in Las Vegas for the upcoming NFL draft. He planned on being one of the players that was to be taken by boat to a red carpet stage in front of the Bellagio fountains after being picked. Then came the coronavirus. The NFL canceled the public event and will opt for a studio show (April 23-25) instead to help stem the spread of the virus. "I was planning on going," said Johnson, who is now looking forward to having the biggest smallest gathering he can in his hometown of Fresno, California. The plan there is to enjoy the draft the best way he can. Johnson, a 2019 All-American and a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 honoree, isn't expecting to be on the board for long.

"I'm just going to deal with whatever happens, but for me personally I'm not expecting anything less than the first round - whether it's the middle and wherever it may be," Johnson said. "I don't really pay attention to what the mock drafts say. That's based on some of my knowledge that I have. So I don't expect to get out of the first round." Johnson added that he's spoken with a lot of different teams and has established relationships. "I'm not too sure exactly who would be a favorite or who would be a front-runner or anything like that," Johnson said. "I just know I've talked to a lot of teams and you never know in a process like this." - Deseret News

When news broke on Feb. 24 that Jaylon Johnson played most of last season with a torn right labrum, it was nothing short of a revelation. As a junior cornerback last fall at the University of Utah, the Fresno, Calif., native was named an All-American after ranking third in the Pac-12 with 11 pass breakups. His two interceptions in 13 starts included a 39-yard pick-six at Washington that helped shift momentum in that win in Seattle, while standing as arguably the Utes' biggest play of the season. The injury reportedly happened at some point in September, making the strong season Johnson had even more remarkable. Now consider that Johnson says the injury occurred even earlier than that.

"It happened sometime in 2018, not sure which game or practice, I really didn't know what was wrong," Johnson told The Salt Lake Tribune on Thursday morning via phone, eight days removed from surgery to repair the torn right labrum. "Going into fall camp, there was a tackling drill and the shoulder just went numb, it was really loose. Talking to the trainer, we knew something was wrong, but I fought through it. I wasn't too concerned with an MRI or an X-ray. "I wanted to do whatever I could and tough it out. I wasn't going to mess up what I had planned, I had a lot on the line." - Salt Lake Tribune

University of Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson has long said it was his plan to declare for the NFL draft after his junior season, and on Friday evening, he announced his declaration via Twitter. "These past three years have been some of the best of my life," Johnson wrote in a post on a graphic that has multiple photos of him in game action. "This place I call home gave me more than I could have ever imagined, and I am eternally grateful." Johnson also thanked people at the university, expressed gratitude for his teammates, whom he called his “brothers” and said that his family is his "why."

A native of Fresno, Calif., the 6-foot, 195-pound Johnson joined the Utes as a highly touted prospect who was seriously considering the likes of USC and Oklahoma during the recruiting process. He made his presence known immediately, as he tied for the team lead in pass breakups his freshman season in 2017. He received All-Pac-12 first team honors his sophomore campaign in 2018 after snagging four interceptions, and then had 10 pass breakups during the 2019 regular season even as opposing offenses tried to avoid throwing his direction. - Deseret News

The past month looked, and felt, so easy for No. 9 Utah. One blowout after another. No tests for the Utes to answer. They knew traveling to Washington would be different, and they were right. The Utes were challenged; falling behind early and rallying late, and in doing so solidified their spot in the College Football Playoff conversation. Tyler Huntley threw for one touchdown and ran for another, Jaylon Johnson returned an interception 39 yards for a score, and No. 9 Utah overcame an 11-point first-half deficit to beat Washington 33-28. The Utes did their part in keeping pace in the Pac-12 South race and bolstered their CFP resume with a road win over a talented opponent in a place where it's never come easy for Utah. - AP College Football
