Grisham, from 2005-08, was the first great slot receiver to play at Clemson under coach Dabo Swinney, starting a trend that included Adam Humphries and Hunter Renfrow, who are both in the NFL. Rodgers is the next line. But the 5-10, 210-pound-senior can do more things than traditional slot guys, Elliott said. "They're typically more of your short area, quick, catch the ball and run," Elliott said. "He can actually go and stretch the field, because he has the speed, but then has the ability to go up and high point the ball." Normally, Clemson turns to taller receivers in deep-ball situations; Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross, both of whom are 6-4, filled that role the past two seasons. Though with Higgins in the NFL and Ross working his way back from surgery for a congenital spine fusion, the onus has fallen on Rodgers, whose 83-yard score marked the team's longest reception of the season so far. That's fine by Lawrence. "If Amari has half a step on someone, he's open," Lawrence said Oct. 5. "Once you throw the ball, he's going to accelerate even more." - Charleston Post Courier

The Tigers had 17 different players catch passes against Georgia Tech as the receiving rotation continues to take shape. Amari Rodgers caught six passes for a career-high 161 yards and two touchdowns, lining up mostly in the slot and beating his man time and time again. Rodgers has established himself as Trevor Lawrence's favorite target. - The State

Clemson football players and members of the men's and women's basketball teams are set to return to voluntary activity beginning June 8. The move comes after Clemson announced its phased return plan last week, including the NCAA's decision to permit voluntary activity for all sports. Student-athletes will be allowed to return as early as June 1 while undergoing a period of social and physical distancing - seven days at home prior to returning to Clemson and seven days after arriving in Clemson. Once this period is complete without symptoms, the student-athletes are eligible to begin pre-participation physicals with Clemson Sports Medicine. This physical includes a test for COVID-19, as well as an antibody test. Student-athletes must also complete daily screenings before entering facilities. - Charleston Post Courier

Clemson receiver Amari Rodgers is ahead of schedule on his rehab after suffering a torn ACL this spring and should be back "sooner than later," according to co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach Jeff Scott. "He's doing well. My experience with guys, regardless of position, that have kind of had to battle through an ACL is a lot of it has to do with the individual, their mental toughness, their mental approach, the way that they attack it," Scott said. "And the way that he has attacked it has not surprised me one bit. He's ahead, really, of every benchmark that they have for him. Very similar to when Deshaun Watson was kind of going through that."

Rodgers was expected to start in the slot this season after playing outside in 2018, prior to suffering the injury in late March. "I think for Amari it's going to be one of those things that we're having to kind of say 'whoa' and not sic 'em, just kind of slow him down a little bit, because he'll want to go out there and do probably a little bit more than the trainers want him to do right now," Scott said. "But I know he's able to do some straight ahead things, and we're hoping in fall camp with the trainers he'll be able to start doing some things laterally." - The State
