2023 ALL-BIG TEN HONORABLE MENTION: Isaiah Nichols,...In his only season as a Boilermaker, Nichols made an instant impact. The Arkansas transfer started all 12 games on the Purdue defensive line, registering 20 tackles. Statistically, his best game was the victory over Virginia Tech (Sept. 9) in which he made four tackles with a pair of TFLs and one sack. Throughout 2023, Nichols helped clog the middle of the field to limit opponents on the ground. - Purdue Football

Much of the preseason discussion regarding Arkansas' revamped defensive line centered on its three big offseason additions. John Ridgeway, Markell Utsey and Tre Williams performed at a level in camp that pushed them into roles as key contributors. All three are listed as starters, according to the Razorbacks' depth chart for Week 1, though Ridgeway might not play. Redshirt junior Isaiah Nichols' name was rarely mentioned during the team's training camp. But his quiet consistency helped him remain heavily in the mix at tackle.

"With Nichols, he brings a lot of leadership," Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said Monday when asked about the former Springdale High standout's preseason. "He's an older guy, brings a lot of passion, a guy who's played. "(He) brings a lot of passion, wants to win. I think Taurean Carter's better because of Isaiah Nichols. I think Nichols and Carter are both better because of Ridgeway. But he brings a lot to us." If Ridgeway is unable to play, Nichols could potentially find himself in a starting role for the eighth time in his career and second consecutive season opener. He is listed this week as the backup to Ridgeway, an Illinois State transfer. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  04/04/21 - DT Isaiah NicholsrSr/2024, Purdue, 6-3, 300 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Second-year Arkansas coach Sam Pittman sees a lot of potential in Isaiah Nichols. He believes in the former Springdale High standout. That is why Pittman urged Nichols to step into a larger role on the Razorbacks' defensive line between the end of the 2020 season and this spring. More than that, he wants Nichols to lead. A redshirt junior, Nichols was up for the challenge and has shown as much through eight spring practices. "I've been working on that a lot, trying to bring guys with me," he said Thursday. "They see my work ethic. A lot of the guys work hard and we're a hard-working group, so I've been trying to be more vocal and telling Eric Gregory, (Taurean Carter), (Dorian Gerald), like, step up, stay stuff. "If you see something that's wrong, say something about it and encourage these guys." Nichols saw his playing time increase last fall, earning seven starts in nine games played. He had a half-sack at Auburn, finished the year with 24 tackles and made the first start of his career in the season opener against Georgia. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/16/20 - DT Isaiah NicholsrSr/2024, Purdue, 6-3, 300 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Over the past week, Arkansas sophomore defensive tackle Isaiah Nichols has been taking more work with Jonathan Marshall and the starting defense in periods open to media viewing. Nichols, Marshall and graduate transfer Xavier Kelly appear to be the top three defensive tackles, with redshirt freshmen Marcus Miller and Taurean Carter in the next wave of inside guys. "I feel like I'm getting a lot better than last season," Nichols said recently. "But I still have some things in my game [like] my pass rush. I've got to work on my pass rush. I really have got to work on everything, especially playing in this conference with the offensive lines and the teams we face." Nichols said defensive line coach Derrick LeBlanc is instilling toughness in the group. "That's how we practice and play defense, to be tough and physical," Nichols said. "I feel like that's the most important thing in the defensive line is being tough and playing hard-nosed football." - Northwest Arkansas Times
