Travis Jonsen, Montana State, Player News

2019 ALL-BIG SKY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): All-Purpose, Travis Jonsen, Senior, Montana State,...Jonsen played a role reflective of his landing the all-purpose spot. He rushed for 432 yards, third on the team, with 471 receiving yards, second on the squad. He operated out of the quarterback spot multiple times every game in addition to his role as a receiver. He proved to be a dependable, versatile offensive weapon. "Especially in the absence of Troy in a couple of games, the value that Travis brought to our run game, coupled with his ability to stretch the field vertically and quite honestly his tenacious coverage on special teams makes him the definition of an all-purpose player," Choate said. "That was kind of the Troy Andersen award that was crealted last year because no knew where to put Troy and we didn't have an all-purpose player (position on the All-Big Sky team). I think that's a great way to honor Travis on the first team on offense." - Montana State Football

Travis Jonsen had 154 yards from scrimmage, including a 75-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and the Montana State defense didn't allow a first down over the last nearly-20 minutes as the Bobcats beat UC Davis 27-17 on Saturday. Jonsen had six carries for 93 yards and added 61 yards receiving on three catches. Kevin Kassis had seven receptions for a career-high 135 yards, Isaiah Ifanse had 10 carries for 77 yards and a score and Tucker Rovig was 17-of-25 passing for 217 yards for Montana State (8-3, 5-2 Big Sky Conference).

Travis Jonsen ran in the game-winning touchdown from 9 yards and Montana State blew a 21-point lead but hung on to beat Cal Poly 34-28 in overtime on Saturday night. Cal Poly (2-3, 1-1 Big Sky Conference) had the ball first in OT, but Colton Theaker missed a 48-yard field goal attempt. Montana State (5-1, 2-0) needed three plays, all Jonsen runs, to get to the end zone for the win.

Drew Hernandez's 3-yard run tied it at 28 for Cal Poly with 7:05 left in regulation. The teams traded punts, Montana State's Tristan Bailey then missed a 50-yard field goal attempt and Jalen Hamler threw an interception that ended Cal Poly's drive at the Montana State 39 with 8 seconds left. The Bobcats ran two plays, failing to score. The Bobcats scored 28 straight points capped by Jonsen's first TD run, a 13-yarder that made it 28-7 with 2:19 left in the third quarter. The Mustangs erased the deficit with three fourth-quarter touchdowns. Jonsen ran 11 times for 85 yards and two TDs for Montana State. Hamler passed for two TDs and ran for another for Cal Poly. - AP College Football

Travis Jonsen ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns to lead Montana State back from a 21-0 first-half deficit to a 49-31 win over Northern Arizona in a Big Sky Conference opener on Saturday. The sixth-ranked Bobcats (4-1) still trailed 31-14 midway through the third quarter, but they rattled off 35 unanswered points behind a prolific run game that produced 244 yards in the second half. MSU ran 22 straight rushing plays at one point during the second half. NAU (2-3) scored the first three touchdowns, with two coming off MSU turnovers, including Taylor Powell's pick-6 off Tucker Rovig to spot the Lumberjacks a 7-0 lead. MSU's Logan Jones fumbled the ball two possessions later and NAU marched 56 yards to go up 21-0.

MSU cut the lead to 21-14 before halftime, but Case Cookus led the Lumberjacks on an 85-yard drive for a score just before the end of the first half to put NAU up 28-14. NAU got a 48-yard field goal into a brisk wind from Luis Aguilar to go up 31-14. The Bobcats methodically got on track in the third quarter and they still trailed by 10 at the start of the fourth but exploded for 28 points, including 14 points in an 18-second span after NAU fumbled on a kickoff return. MSU held NAU star quarterback Case Cookus to just 26-for-50 passing for 273 yards and one touchdown. Shane Perry rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries for MSU. Logan Jones pitched in with 74 yards on 18 carries. MSU finished with 340 yards rushing. - Montana State/AP College Football
