James Skalski's legacy at Clemson will be one for the books. The sixth-year senior has one more chapter left to add, though. On Feb. 11, he tweeted out a video accompanied by three words: not done yet. Once considered an NFL Draft prospect, the linebacke r opted to return to school as one-half of the "Bruise Brothers," a nickname coach Dabo Swinney gave Skalski and Baylon Spector. Skalski ended up only playing nine games and started in eight while dealing with a groin injury. Still, the Mike linebacker a nd team captain managed to end the season with 44 tackles and 1.5 sacks while making history as the first-ever player to play in five ACC championship games.Spector, the other Bruise Brother, made the most out of his year as a full-time starter in 2020. Playing Will linebacker, the redshirt senior led the Tigers in tackles (72) and sacks (4.5) as the defensive unit finished second in the ACC behind Notre Dame, which won't be in the conference this year. Between Spector and Skalski and the seven o ther listed scholarship linebackers, defensive coordinator Brent Venables won't be short of viable options, despite losing nickel/sam linebacker Mike Jones, Jr. - The State

Clemson linebacker James Skalski is already the first player to ever play in five ACC championship games. Now he has an opportunity to become the first to ever play in six. Skalski announced Thursday that he is returning to Clemson for a sixth season. He 's able to do that after the NCAA decided last August to give all fall sport student-athletes an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The return of Skalski is huge for Brent Venables and the Clemson defense. Skalski is not only an All- ACC performer but is also someone Dabo Swinney described as "the heart and soul" of Clemson's defense this past season. - The State

Lawrence wasn't the only starter to return Saturday. Defensive tackle Tyler Davis and linebackers James Skalski and Mike Jones Jr. were all back with the first unit after lengthy absences. The result was a defensive showing to remember. "That was one of our better performances, probably, in the past couple years," defensive coordinator Brent Venables said. The Tigers held a good Pittsburgh offense to 246 total yards and to 16 on the ground. The Panthers also had five turnovers - four interceptions and a fumble lost. After a performance against Notre Dame on Nov. 7 that Venables would rather soon forget, Clemson's defense stepped up in a big way Saturday. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said one of the defense's leading players in linebacker James Skalski will miss several games with a knee injury. Swinney said Tuesday that Skalski will have arthroscopic surgery on his knee. The coach is unsure how long Skalsk i would be out. Skalski missed last week's 47-21 victory over Syracuse. Swinney said Skalski had an MRI that revealed the injury. The fifth-year senior from Sharpsburg, Georgia was Clemson's second leading tackler with 105 stops in 2019, his first as a s tarter. He was second this season, too, before sitting out against the Orange. Swinney said Jake Venables, the older of defensive coordinator Brent Venables' two sons on the Tigers, would start in Skalski's place. - AP College Football
