 Logan Marchi, Sacred Heart, Player News


  Logan Marchi threw three touchdown passes, Julius Chestnut rushed for a career-high 203 yards and Sacred Heart rallied to beat Bryant 24-17 on Saturday. Marchi hit Naseim Brantley on a 25-yard scoring pass in the second quarter and the Pioneers (5-4, 3-2 Northeast Conference) tied it at 14 on his 25-yarder to Rob DiNota before halftime. Kezio Snelling hauled in a 15-yard pass for the go-ahead score and Dane Borges added a 26-yard field goal in the third quarter. Marchi was 16 of 27 for 177 yards with a fumble and an interception. Chestnut had 43 carries in his sixth 100-plus rushing yard performance of the season. Kory Curtis, 14 of 26 for 172 yards and two interceptions, scored on a 5-yard run and Jesse Nemerowicz returned a 33-yard pick-six off a Marchi pass for Bryant (2-8, 1-4).   Logan Marchi threw two touchdown passes, including the game winner in overtime, and Sacred Heart beat St. Francis (Pa.) 36-33 on Saturday. The Red Flash built a 20-10 lead with 4:05 left before halftime when Jason Brown threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to the Ej Jenkins. Sacred Heart (4-4, 2-2 Northeast Conference) sandwiched a pair of field goals around one from St. Francis (4-4, 2-2) and the Red Flash led 23-16 after three quarters.

Julius Chestnut's 2-yard touchdown run tied it at 23-all before Brown connected with Terell Johnson for a 42-yard TD pass. The Pioneers responded as Marchi threw a 71-yard TD pass to Kezio Snelling with 5:18 left in regulation. The Red Flash got a 36-yard field goal from Trevor Thompson in the extra period before Marchi threw 10-yard score to Rob DiNota to end it. The play marked the Pioneers' first lead of the game. Marchi threw for 280 yards and ran for 45 yards. Snelling caught four passes for 134 yards.   SEPT 16/WEEK 3 NEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: LOGAN MARCHI, SACRED HEART, QB, Gr., 6-0, 205 lbs., Winsted, CT/St. Paul Catholic,...WEEK 3 Stats: 12.72 yards per pass attempts, 6 TD passes, 407 pass yards, 68.8 completion pct.,...Marchi followed up the NEC's first 300-yard passing performance of the season by becoming the first quarterback to eclipse the 400-yard mark during the first three weeks. Averaging 12.72 yards per pass attempt, the 6-foot signal caller threw for six touchdowns and played his second straight turnover-free game.

Orchestrating a 56-point explosion at Patriot League member Lafayette, Marchi finished 22-of-32 passing for 407 yards. In addition to a 7-yard scoring strike that put SHU on the board in the first quarter, Marchi launched two bombs (75, 65) that Kezio Snelling took in for touchdowns. Marchi's final TD pass, a 37-yard hook-up with Yasir Berry, gave the Pioneers a 56-27 advantage with 8:49 remaining in the fourth quarter.   Logan Marchi passed for 375 yards and his three touchdown strikes in the second quarter propelled Sacred Heart past Long Island 34-10 on Saturday in a Northeast Conference opener. The Pioneers (3-1) entered the second quarter trailing 7-6 but scored on their next three possessions. Marchi capped a nine-play, 88-yard drive with an 11-yard scoring pass to Tyrese Chambers, then found Del Driscoll from the 10 after the Pioneers got the ball back on a fumble and hit Chambers again from 60 yards out for a 27-7 halftime lead.

Julius Chestnut added a 44-yard touchdown run late in the game. Chestnut rushed for 141 yards, while Chambers had 144 yards receiving. Long Island (0-2), a combination of athletic programs from LIU Post and LIU Brooklyn, is playing Division I football for the first time. Clay Beathard led the Sharks with 135 yards passing but was intercepted twice. Three turnovers hurt the Sharks. Marchi has passed for more than 300 yards in the last three games, all Sacred Heart wins. - AP College Football

  Logan Marchi threw six touchdown passes, tying a school record, and Sacred Heart dominated the second half to defeat Lafayette 56-40 on Saturday. Marchi completed 22 of 32 passes for 407 yards and threw three touchdown passes in each half. Kezio Snelling hauled in three of the TD passes, including a 75-yarder in the first quarter. The play was the longest TD pass for the Pioneers (2-1) since the 2015 season.

Lafayette (0-3) scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 24-21 at intermission. The second half belonged to Sacred Heart as Julius Chestnut capped a 75-yard opening drive with the first of his two 1-yard TD runs and a 28-24 lead. Marchi found Tyrese Chambers from the 20 and Snelling from 65 yards out as the Pioneers led 42-27 by the end of the third. Snelling caught five passes for 158 yards, Chambers had nine catches for 133. Lafayette outgained Sacred Heart 632-506 in total yards, Keegan Shoemaker passing for 411, but turned the ball over on picks twice and lost 120 yards in penalties. - AP College Football
