Draft Scout *Zach Ertz News
10/01/18 - TE Zach Ertz on Sunday had 10 catches for 112 yards, which is a franchise-record seventh career game with 10-plus receptions as well as his seventh career game with 100 more receiving yards.
09/08/18 - TE Zach Ertz lamented a pair of ugly drops that marred his performance in the team's season-opening 18-12 win over the Atlanta Falcons. While Ertz finished with five receptions for 48 yards on Thursday, Ertz wasn't celebrating his stat line despite being targeted 10 times. "I didn't have a great game. I had drops that just don't happen. I don't think I've ever dropped that many balls in a game in my life. Contested or not, whatever it was, it just can't happen," Ertz said, via The Morning Call. "I can't dwell on having a couple drops. It's going to happen -- it's the NFL. But at the same time, I'm going to be better. I promise you that."
06/05/18 - TE Zach Ertz and defensive lineman Chris Long took FOX News to task after the network showed footage of the team's players praying before a game. FOX News ran the misleading footage during a segment in which anchor Shannon Bream discussed President Donald Trump's aversion to players kneeling during the national anthem. FOX News has since apologized for what it described as an "error." The segment aired less than 12 hours after Trump announced that he had rescinded an invitation for the Eagles to visit the White House. FOX News ran footage of the team praying before a game as opposed to kneeling for the national anthem, with some photos depicting players who were even on the team in 2017. The Eagles did not have any players kneel during the national anthem last season. Ertz took issue with the footage by venting his displeasure over social media. "This can't be serious," the 27-year-old Ertz wrote on Twitter. "Praying before games with my teammates, well before the anthem, is being used for your propaganda?! Just sad, I feel like you guys should have to be better than this..."
02/05/18 - TE Zach Ertz had seven receptions for 67 yards, and five were good for first downs with four on third down and one on fourth down. They led to three touchdowns, with three coming on the possession that put the Eagles ahead 38-33 with 2:21 to play in the game.
In that drive, he had a 7-yard reception on third-and-6, a 2-yard catch on fourth-and-1, and then an 11-yard touchdown on third-and-7.
Often aggressive head coach Doug Pederson opted to go for the first down on fourth down with the Eagles on their 45-yard line and 5:39 remaining in the game.
Ertz said he hopes to get the ball in important situations. He said, "I want to get the ball whenever the situation calls for it. We have a lot of talented guys on this football team. They've done an amazing job building this roster. When the situation calls for it, they trusted me. That's all I can ask."
01/25/18 - TE Zach Ertz likely will keep his eyes on the field during Super Bowl LII even when his offense is on the sideline. Ertz admitted to reporters on Wednesday that he routinely studies fellow tight ends, and that includes New England Patriots star Rob Gronkowski. "The guy's a physical specimen," Ertz said. "He's a freak. He's a beast after the catch. He's able to use his body even when he's not open to get open with the frame he has. He's definitely been the premier tight end in this league for a long time (and) I think he'd still be producing those numbers without Tom Brady."
