Draft Scout Derrick Johnson News
05/26/18 - LB Derrick Johnson is a welcome addition to the Oakland Raiders, according to coach Jon Gruden. Gruden told reporters that the addition of Johnson -- the Chiefs' all-time leader tackler -- helps solidify the middle of the Raiders defense. While thrilled with securing the services of the four-time Pro Bowl selection, Gruden couldn't help but look at other additions in the past that came at the expense of the AFC West rival Chiefs. "Last time I was here at Oakland we stole Rich Gannon from Kansas City, we took Andre Rison from the Chiefs, we took Albert Lewis from the Chiefs," Gruden said. "We love stealing from the Chiefs. So now we got Derrick Johnson and I'm on my way to the Raiders store to pick up a Derrick Johnson Raiders jersey. I'm gonna wear it home tonight."
05/07/18 - LB Derrick Johnson signed with the Oakland Raiders, the club announced Monday. Details of the contract were not disclosed, but multiple media outlets reported Johnson agreed to a one-year deal. Johnson joins the Raiders after 13 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, a longtime archrival of the Raiders. Despite tearing his left Achilles tendon for the second time in two years late in the 2016 season, the 35-year-old Johnson came back to make 71 tackles and break up seven passes in 15 games for the Chiefs last season.

The Chiefs elected against re-signing Johnson this offseason after the 35-year-old spent 13 seasons (2005-17) with the team. Johnson is the franchise's all-time leading tackler with 1,151 career stops to go along with 27.5 sacks, 14 interceptions, 23 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries in 182 games.
02/20/18 - LB Derrick Johnson took to social media to thank the team and its fans after playing 13 NFL seasons in the City of Fountains. The Chiefs announced last week that the four-time Pro Bowl selection would be allowed to become a free agent when his contract with the club expires at the start of the new league year on March 14. "I want to thank the Kansas City Chiefs and the Hunt family for supporting me since 2005," the 35-year-old Johnson wrote on Instagram. "The Love you showed a young kid from Texas, really allowed me to have a home away from home. Chiefs Kingdom you will be truly missed. Trust me I wish I could play for the Chiefs forever but that's not the reality. However God has been blessing me for a long time in KC and my trust will remain in the man upstairs. #13greatyears #easilymotivated#notdoneyet"
