 Draft Scout *Danieal Manning News
09/01/14 - S Danieal Manning, who left Chicago for the Texans as a free agent in 2011 and started for three seasons, has returned. Rather than accept a pay reduction in the offseason, he opted for free agency and signed with Cincinnati to be reunited with former Texans secondary coach Vance Joseph. But when the Bengals waived him, the Texans signed him. Manning, who can play either safety position, is like a coach on the field and in the locker room. If he can still run, he's also a good kickoff returner. That's a duty he didn't perform too often with the Texans because they wanted to protect him from injury.
04/03/14 - S Danieal Manning, who was cut by the Houston Texans this week, signed with Cincinnati. Terms of the deal were not announced but NFL.com reported earlier that the Bengals were finalizing a one-year contract with Manning. Manning, 31, reunites with Vance Joseph, who joined the Bengals this offseason after previously serving as the defensive backs coach of the Texans. Negotiations initiated by the Texans geared toward reducing Manning's $6 million cap figure failed. He is also returning from knee injury. Manning was due a $4.5 million base salary with the Texans and refused to take a pay cut. Manning had 24 tackles and one sack in six games last year before the injury. He signed a four-year deal with the Texans in 2011 as a free agent after beginning his NFL career with the Chicago Bears. A second round draft pick of the Bears in 2006, Manning has 506 tackles, 11 interceptions, 41 pass breakups, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, four sacks and one interception in his career.
03/31/14 - S Danieal Manning was released by the Texans with the designation failed physical. Negotiations initiated by the Texans geared toward reducing Manning's $6 million cap figure failed, and Houston opted to cut ties with the veteran, who will be 32 in August and is returning from a major knee injury. Manning was due a $4.5 million base salary and refused to take a pay cut. "I'm dealing with it great," Manning told FOX 26 in Houston. "Both parties agreed to disagree. It's nothing personal. I'm really not upset at all. ... To be honest I'm actually kind of happy. We all came to an agreement. There's no bad blood." Manning had 24 tackles and one sack in six games last year before the injury. He signed a four-year deal with the Texans in 2011 as a free agent after beginning his NFL career with the Chicago Bears. Manning thanked the Texans fans for supporting him during his three years in Houston. "These fans embraced me," he said. "They made me feel at home every time. Those guys will be missed. I wish I could bring them with me wherever I go." A second round draft pick of the Bears in 2006, Manning has 506 tackles, 11 interceptions, 41 pass breakups, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, four sacks and one interception in his career.
10/14/13 - SS Danieal Manning suffered a "significant knee injury," according to coach Gary Kubiak, "and could be out a while." He'll be replaced by Shiloh Keo.
12/28/12 - SS Danieal Manning, an alternate in Pro Bowl voting, has been one of the team's best defensive players. He always seems to be around the ball. He's emerged as one of the defensive leaders, especially for the secondary. Manning is a hard hitter and a sure tackler. He sometimes gets caught out of position on coverage because he's so aggressive. He's smart and instinctive, and his teammates like and respect him. In two-deep coverage, he plays back as the last line of defense.
