 Draft Scout Jesse Ertz News
11/21/17 - Kansas State quarterback Jesse Ertz will need surgery on his ailing knee and miss the remainder of the season, while backup Alex Delton remains sidelined after sustaining two concussions. Wildcats coach Bill Snyder said it's possible Delton could return for a bowl game. That means the Wildcats, who are 6-5 after last week's upset of Oklahoma State, will lean on freshman Skylar Thompson against Iowa State on Saturday. He was the Big 12's newcomer of the week after throwing for 204 yards and three TDs and running for 93 yards and another score against the Cowboys. Thompson was also banged-up during the game, briefly leaving with a knee injury. But he returned to the field and said afterward that he would be ready for the Cyclones. - AP College Football
10/23/17 - QB Jesse Ertz missed his second straight game with a knee injury on Saturday against Oklahoma, but coach Bill Snyder "anticipated" Ertz will return at Kansas this Saturday. Backup Alex Delton has taken every snap in each of the last two games after entering in the fourth quarter at Texas on Oct. 7.
10/17/17 - QB Jesse Ertz dressed for the TCU game and was involved in pregame warmups before the Oct. 14 loss to TCU, though a knee injury he suffered in the Oct. 7 loss at Texas could keep him out indefinitely. Kansas State coach Bill Snyder said the expected recovery period will permit Ertz to return this season.
09/30/17 - Kansas State used two big defensive plays deep in Baylor territory to defeat the Bears 33-20 on Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. A snap over the quarterback's head and a bobbled snap by Baylor's punter gave the Wildcats 10 second-half points. Kansas State (3-1, 1-0 Big 12 Conference) was outgained, but the big plays proved to be enough to hand Baylor its fifth straight loss. Baylor (0-5, 0-2) had not started a season 0-5 since they finished 0-10 in 1969. Trailing 20-3 at halftime, Baylor took the second-half kickoff and used nearly half the third quarter on a 16-play, 65-yard drive, but it only led to a 27-yard field goal by Connor Martin.

Following a Kansas State punt, Baylor cut the lead to 20-13 when John Lovett raced through the middle of the Wildcats defense for a 74-yard touchdown run. Baylor appeared to be driving for a potential tying score when the center snap sailed over quarterback Zach Smith. The ball rolled all the way back to the 14-yard-line, where it was recovered by defensive end Kyle Ball. Two plays later, quarterback Jesse Ertz ran it in from the 15 to give the Wildcats a 27-13 lead. Baylor responded with another big play, this time a 70-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Denzel Mims. Kansas State took 4:48 off the clock, ending with a 49-yard field goal by Matthew McCrane to extend the lead to 30-20 with 8:06 left. - The Sports Xchange

09/03/17 - Kansas State coach Bill Snyder was glad his team ended up on the plus side of the scoreboard, but that's about it. "We will be practicing tonight at midnight against the option," Snyder said after his No. 20 Wildcats downed FCS opponent Central Arkansas 55-19 to open the season Saturday night in front of 51,043 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. Snyder was most unhappy with the 223 rushing yards allowed. "When they continually run the same play and get positive yardage, it's a bad story," he said. "We have to get better." Even though Snyder was not pleased, there was plenty to admire in the Wildcats' game. The Wildcats scored 21 unanswered points to pull away at the end of the first half and outscored the Bears 38-3 after the 8:53 mark of the second quarter.

The biggest positive was quarterback Jesse Ertz, who finished 10 of 16 for 333 yards and four touchdowns. His 319.8 passer rating set a single-game high in Kansas State history. "Ask the receivers man how I played. They made me look good," Ertz said. "We knew we had the talent. We just all have to get on the same page. Especially after-the-catch, this is a special group." Even Snyder was pleased with his quarterback. "He played well," he said. "He had two, maybe three, visible plays where he was off the mark, but outside that he played well. He had time to make decisions on the snap of the football." - The Sports Xchange
