 Draft Scout Royce Freeman News
02/27/18 - 2018 NFL Combine: Athleticism Key for these Prospects: Royce Freeman, RB, Oregon...Freeman was never the fastest or most explosive running back, but he appeared to lose a step following his injuries last season as a junior. Matching numbers to his athleticism will be interesting for evaluators. - Dane Brugler,
12/14/17 - Oregon senior running back Royce Freeman won't play in the Las Vegas Bowl against Boise State on Saturday. New Oregon coach Mario Cristobal announced the decision Thursday. Oregon's all-time leading rusher had practiced earlier this week in Las Vegas, leading to speculation he may play. "This is hard for him. This is not an easy decision for a guy who's invested his heart and soul in this program," Cristobal said. The Ducks coach did not say whether fellow senior Tyrell Crosby would play. Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and LSU running back Leonard Fournette both sat out bowl games to avoid injury as they prepared for the NFL draft. Freeman, who could be taken in the early rounds of the 2018 draft, set the Pac-12 record with 60 career rushing touchdowns, surpassing Oregon State's Ken Simonton, who ran for 59 from 1998-01. He holds Oregon career records for rushing yards (5,621), rushing touchdowns (60), total touchdowns (64) and 100-yard rushing games (31). - AP College Football
12/08/17 - 2017 ALL-PAC-12 FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES): RB Royce Freeman, Sr., Oregon,...Running back Royce Freeman, defensive lineman Jalen Jelks and linebacker Troy Dye earned second-team all-conference status for 2017. Freeman rushed for 1,475 yards in his senior season; he earned all-conference honors for the fourth straight year, after being named to the second team as a freshman in 2014, the first team when he set the UO single-season rushing record in 2015, and honorable mention in 2016. - Oregon Football
11/25/17 - The Oregon Ducks waited 364 days for this game. Led by a record-breaking night from running back Royce Freeman, Oregon (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12) exacted revenge from last year's Civil War loss with an 69-10 dismantling of rival Oregon State on Saturday in Eugene, Ore. One year ago, a 34-24 loss to Oregon State (1-11, 0-9 Pac-12) ignited a complete makeover of the Oregon football program. Coach Mark Helfrich was fired, making room for USF's Willie Taggart to take over. Then Taggart traveled down to southern California to convince Freeman to return for one more season, promising an offense built around the senior. Safe to say Freeman made the right choice. He finished the game with 122 yards and two scores -- with his second touchdown breaking the Pac-12 record for most career rushing touchdowns. He has 60 with a bowl game still to be played. Quarterback Justin Herbert showed how dangerous Oregon's offense can be when he's directing it, finishing with 251 yards and three scores on 13-of-23 passing. He also had a rushing score. Dillon Mitchell enjoyed a career day, finishing with six catches 119 yards and two scores for the Ducks. - The Sports Xchange
11/18/17 - What a difference Justin Herbert makes. After missing the previous five games with a fractured collarbone, Herbert returned in a big way to lead Oregon to a 48-28 victory over Arizona on Saturday night in Eugene, Ore. With the win, the Ducks are bowl eligible in coach Willie Taggart's first year. The Ducks' passing offense was completely nonexistent in the five games that Herbert missed as Oregon threw six interceptions and totaled 320 yards through the air. Herbert threw for 235 yards on 14-of-19 passing and one touchdown against Arizona, and he added 40 yards on the ground and a score. Running back Royce Freeman also enjoyed having Herbert back. The mere threat of Herbert throwing the ball opened running lanes for Freeman, who finished with 135 yards on 19 carries and four scores. Tony Brooks-James added 124 yards rushing as Oregon finished with 355 yards rushing and five scores on the ground. The game was close after three quarters, with Oregon leading 35-28 after Arizona's Zach Green ran for a 2-yard touchdown. - The Sports Xchange
