The transfer portal has been kind to Miami Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal and defensive line coaches Joe Salave'a and Rod Wright. Cristobal and his staff quickly bolstered the strength of their defensive line thanks to key transfers who will quickly play large roles in the rotation. The combination of newcomers and returnees should make UM's defensive line a formidable unit. "I could definitely say that I've never played on a D-line so deep before," Southern California transfer Jake Lichtenstein said. "It's so much competition and we're all really progressing and pushing each other to get better. It's a lot of fun when you have that many guys that can get the job done."

Lichtenstein is one of five defensive linemen who transferred to Miami this offseason, joining Mitchell Agude, Darrell Jackson, Akheem Mesidor and Antonio Moultrie. Lichtenstein, Jackson and Moultrie are primarily interior defensive linemen, while Agude and Mesidor will line up on the edge. A benefit for the Hurricanes will be the experience all of the linemen have. Agude (who transferred from UCLA), Lichtenstein (USC) and Moultrie (Alabama-Birmingham) are all sixth-year redshirt seniors. Mesidor is a third-year sophomore who received plenty of playing time at West Virginia, and Jackson played in 13 games for Maryland last season. "It's not like a bunch of dudes who never played came and transferred here," Lichtenstein said. "We all have experience." - Sun Sentinel
