  2023 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Finn Claypool, Drake,...Claypool, a Des Moines, Iowa product, becomes the second student-athlete in league history to follow up a Freshman Defensive Player of the Year campaign by winning the league's Defensive Player of the Year award the following year. He joins Stetson defensive back Donald Payne, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, to accomplish the feat. Claypool helped Drake win the 2023 PFL Championship behind a 55-tackle campaign that included 19.0 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and two pass breakups. He finished the regular season ranked second among FCS defenders in sacks and is fifth in tackles for loss. In his first two seasons with his hometown team, he has amassed 33.5 tackles for loss and 20.5 sacks. - Pioneer Football League

  2022 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE DEFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Finn Claypool, Drake,...Playing for his hometown team, Claypool enjoyed an impressive redshirt freshman campaign. He finished third among league tacklers in both tackles for loss (14.5) and sacks (8.0), ranking among the FCS' top 25 in each category. The Des Moines, Iowa native, recorded 12 solo tackles for loss, and all eight of his sacks were solo stops during the campaign. Claypool led the way with 12.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks in league play while also averaging 4.63 tackles per game to rank among the league's top 50. He is the fourth Drake athlete to earn the league's freshman defensive award and the first since Mack Marrin won the 2014 honor. - Pioneer Football League

  NOV 21 PIONEER LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Finn Claypool, Drake, (So., DL, Des Moines Iowa),...Claypool posted four tackles for loss and two sacks as Drake posted its first shutout since 2011 in a 24-0 PFL victory at Valparaiso, Saturday. He finished the game with six tackles (four solo) and was credited with three quarterback hurries to disrupt the Valparaiso passing game. Claypool bookended his day with the two sacks - the first helping to force a missed field goal in the first quarter and the second on Valparaiso's final drive of the game. Drake held Valparaiso to 216 offensive yards, including 44 rushing yards. - Pioneer Football
